Spring 2012 Lecture Series - Union Station: An American Icon
The University of the District of Columbia, in partnership with the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, is pleased to announce an exciting series of lectures for its Spring 2012 Lecture Series – Union Station: An American Icon.
Union Station is one of the iconic landmarks in the nation’s capital and function both as a tourist destination and multimodal transportation hub. The lecture series will show how the station evolved over the last 100 years and continued to meet the divergent needs of both visitors and residents.
February 27th “The Retailing of Union Station”.
Mark Polhemus, Union Station General Manager, will present on the retail aspects of the station including historical attempts to retail the stations since the 1970s, lessons learned from what has worked and not worked in the past, current challenges and approach to retailing, how market data and the types of daily users of the station influence marketing decisions, how tenants are selected, and what improvements the public should expect.

March 20th - “Managing the second busiest passenger rail station in the country”.
Mike Latiff, Amtrak’s Station Operations Manager will focus his presentation on the management and coordination of the various transportation systems (rail, bus, vehicular, and bike) that call Union Station home. Visitor and passenger comfort and safety will also be explored.
All lectures begin at 6:30pm
