The City of Corvallis 2008 Sustainability Report is now available in PDF format on the City's website: http://www.ci.corvallis.or.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3566&Itemid=4231. This fifth annual report outlines actions that the City is taking to achieve a more sustainable workplace through plans and programs that promote a balance of environmental, economic and social equity values. It provides an overview of the successes and challenges in developing an organization-wide Sustainability Management System, a "Report Card" on progress toward meeting 2008 goals, highlights of departmental and organizational actions, and next steps for 2009. For example,

    • The energy management system installed at the Library has resulted in energy savings of nearly 45 percent over 2007, as well as increased comfort for staff and patrons.
    • Parks and Recreation staff developed and initiated Sustainable Rental Guidelines for building rentals and published articles on using sustainable products at events. The department also expanded its recycling program by adding bins at events, day camps, the Senior Center, and the Osborn Aquatic Center.

If you have questions about the report or any other aspect of the City's sustainability activities, please contact Sustainability Supervisor Linda Lovett at 541-754-6916.

The City of Corvallis 2009 Sustainability Report is now available in PDF format on the City's website: http://www.ci.corvallis.or.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3984&Itemid=4498. This sixth annual report outlines actions that the City is taking to achieve a more sustainable workplace through plans and programs that promote a balance of environmental, economic and social equity values. It provides an overview of the successes and challenges in developing an organization-wide Sustainability Management System, a "Report Card" on progress toward meeting 2009 goals, highlights of departmental and organizational actions, and next steps for 2010. For example:

  • The City installed three high-efficiency boilers and an energy management system at the Osborn Aquatic Center. Along with a partial recommissioning of mechanical systems, the changes saved about $40,000 in the first seven months of the fiscal year. Natural gas use is down by 36,000 therms and electricity use by 190,000 kilowatt hours over the previous year.

  • Solar water heating systems were installed on the Madison Avenue Building, the Public Works facility, and Fire Station 4.

  • The organization completed its first greenhouse gas inventory for City operations, showing a 3 percent reduction in emissions in 2008 as compared with the base year of 2004.
