Peace and Justice Community Jam
Sunday, February 1st
Common Fields
6pm - 8pm
I’ve been thinking about how to take action to protect democracy and halt authoritarianism, and all the harm it causes. As we gear up for the next Community Peace and Justice Jam, I am reminded, of course, of the great Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon’s song "Greed"
- “I’ve been thinking about how to talk about greed.” I’ve been thinking about how to talk about action. When there is so much work to do to fight for justice, it can seem counterintuitive to stop “working” to gather and sing.
So, please bring your songs that talk about social justice action! Often, if a song has a verb in it, it speaks of action. For example, Joy In Resistance, by Resistance Revival Chorus - “We will fight the good fight/With or without your assistance.” Or, Babylon System, by Bob Marley - “Tell the children the truth.”
