Spend Saturday afternoon experiencing local Indigenous perspectives.

Tarweed Awakening Corvallis

The Plant, The Person, The Place

Saturday, August 23^rd from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

You are invited to the Tarweed Awakening Corvallis. Champinefu means the Place of the people of Pinefu (Marys River).

Schedule of 4 venues:

1:15 pm & 2:15 pm - Tours of Shawala Point, leave from Wild Yeast Bakery

1:00-3:00 pm - Indigenous Tarweed practices related to Tarweed at Wade Hardware, 2nd and Adams. Arrive at any time within that time frame.

1:00-3:00 pm, Mystery of 2 Men with the Same Name at the Corvallis Museum, 2^nd and Adams. Arrive at any time within that time frame.

3:00 -3:30 pm – Three Short Presentations at Wild Yeast Bakery

How to participate:

The Awakening is free and open to the public. There is no registration, so just show up. Oh, and it will be hot, so bring water to drink.

Park at the large City parking lot at Western Ave. and 2^nd Street.
Start at Wild Yeast Bakery. 648 SW 2^nd Street & B Avenue with outdoor tents featuring displays and greeters to help get you oriented and started.

Tarweed Awakening Corvallis will help us all learn about:

Tarweed (asawal), a critical first food of the Ampinefu Kalapuya.
Sawala (AKA William Hartless), the person, named after asawal (Tarweed) and left us the information we currently know of the local Ampinefu Kalapuya people.
Sawala (AKA Shawala) Point (named after the person who was named for the Tarweed plant) at the confluence of the Pinefu (Marys) River and the Willamette River.
