Hey Permaculture Peeps!
Hope you are all having a good week. Just wanted to remind you all that next weeks Permaculture Meeting is not only going to be awesome, but is going to start an hour early to maximize the sun’s potential for light during our work project!
Monday November 2st, 5pm @ Student Sustainability Center (Corner of 15th and Western)
We plan to complete the following…
- Harvest Logs from site to build fence
- Fill in posts and attach rails
- Bring work shoes and clothes and a big smile =)
Stay tuned for later planting date. There will be a few snacks provided, bring anything you might like to share, pot-luck style, if you feel so inclined.

We have split up into our different realms of sustainability for our first planning meetings. Here is what is happening this week.
Waste Reduction: Monday 4:00-5:00 @ SSC

Powershift West is this weekend!!!
There is still time to register!
This Fall, we have
an opportunity to usher in the new, clean energy economy that will
create millions of new jobs, reduce global warming pollution and end
our dependence on dirty energy sources.
If
you are an OSU student, the Student Sustainability Initiative will be
funding the first 50 students who register!! We are going to fill a
charter bus and go down together.
Join us at the Power Shift West Summit Nov 6-8 in Eugene, OR as we speak up and let our Senators in Washington DC know that we demand a clean energy future.
The focus of the conference will be:
- The Climate Bill & the UN climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen
- 21st century Transportation (high-speed rail)
- Local, renewable, neighborhood-scale energy projects
- Moving beyond coal
Be part of an incredible 3-day conference full of inspiring speakers, panels, and educational workshops. Meet students and youth from across the west who are working to create a more sustainable future for all on their campuses and communities.

Talkin’ Trash: OSU Waste Reduction Gathering

Interested in sustainability and reducing waste at OSU? Come by to learn about recycling and composting on campus, find out about volunteer opportunities, brainstorm projects, enjoy free food, and chat with fellow trash talkers! Hour one will focus on training and Q & A and hour two on involvement and brainstorming projects. Come for all or just part of the meeting! SSI Accepting Grant Applications for Student Projects Due Soon!
Hi everyone, SSI
is now accepting grant applications for student projects. This means
that as a student, you can apply for a sustainability related project.
There are $12,000 available for next year in grants, and one single
project may apply for up to $6,000 dollars. Projects that benefit sustainability, OSU students,
and the SSI's mission "Supporting student efforts to create a
sustainable community at OSU through opportunity, education, and
action" are more likely to be funded. The application are going to be due November 13th!! The applications are posted online. The updated application is on this page under the grants section: http://recycle.oregonstate.edu/ssi/grantsjobs.cfm
You do not have to submit a letter of interest. When the applications are completed, they are to be sent out to the SSI fee board chair Kyle Ireton: ire...@onid.orst.edu

LAND USE ACTION TEAM: Inventory is First Step toward Creating Sustainable Neighborhoods
With the long-range goal of creating a more sustainable, compact city, the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Land Use Action Team is coordinating with volunteers throughout Corvallis to conduct an inventory of neighborhoods to assess existing amenities, walkability, bikability and public transit opportunities. The information from the inventory can be used to prioritize where to improve sidewalks, bike lanes, and multi-use paths for enhanced safety and connectivity, and where to add new amenities. The CSC Land Use goals, strategies, and actions address local environmentally friendly food production, publicly accessible natural areas, sustainable vibrant neighborhoods, reduced dependence on fossil fuels, and green building.
