Title: Home Energy Auditor

The Home Energy Auditor is responsible for completing walkthrough home safety and energy efficiency audits for home owners and tenants. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work in the field and wants to directly impact residential home health, safety, and energy performance for community members in Oregon’s central Willamette Valley and coast.

About Seeds for the Sol:

Seeds for the Sol is a nonprofit, grassroots organization in Corvallis, Oregon, taking action to remove the financial barriers to residential energy efficiency and renewable energy. For income-qualified homeowners and landlords of income-qualified tenants, we provide guidance, a free home energy assessment or audit, vetted contractors list, help accessing state incentives, and zero-interest loans to complete upgrades. We seek to serve marginalized communities such as low-income, disabled, veteran, women, queer, and Latinx households, grounded in our deep commitment to serving our community in Benton, Linn, Lincoln, Polk, Lane, Marion, and Yamhill counties.


The Home Energy Auditor position will be involved with all aspects of our program delivery. You will help with client intake by checking for eligibility criteria and scheduling Home Energy Audits for qualifying clients. You will travel to client homes to inspect and document home infrastructure such as insulation, windows and doors, roof, heating/cooling equipment, water heaters, and ducts. Your organizational skills and attention to detail will help our team connect clients to contractors and home improvement programs that improve the health, safety, and efficiency of their homes at no cost to qualifying clients.

Job description:

This position will work closely with the Director of Program Operations, Program Operations Assistant, and Home Energy Technicians to connect client households with home safety and energy efficiency audits, contractors, and financial support. Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Relevant certifications in residential building and energy efficiency trades or ability to achieve certifications within 1 month of hiring, such as BPI Building Analyst Technician, Residential Energy Services Network Home Energy Rater (RESNET), Oregon Training Institute Residential Energy Analyst, or equivalent certification.

  • Proficiency in oral and written Spanish and English.

  • Ability to communicate with clients with challenging circumstances and limited experience in home energy efficiency systems, taking a patient trauma-informed approach.

  • Knowledge of residential construction and residential mechanical systems.

  • Practical knowledge of job safety standards and ability to assess and mitigate job site hazards.

  • Ability to assess projects and create recommended home infrastructure and improvement plans based on project eligibility for incentive programs.

  • Proficiency with common office software and digital technologies (Monday.com, MS Word, Excel, Google Workspace, Zoom, Docusign, Dropbox).

  • Self-motivation with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. 

  • Top-notch communication skills, willingness to learn, a sense of humor, and commitment to inclusion to work with our small but mighty team. 

  • Commitment to climate and energy justice through serving low and medium income families; women; veterans; people with disabilities; elderly; and other marginalized communities in our service area.

  • Valid drivers license, reliable vehicle, and required auto insurance.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in trauma-informed program delivery

  • Prior experience conducting energy audits or equipment assessments.

  • Knowledge of energy codes and standards (ASHRAE, DOE, etc.).


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Required to sit, stand, walk; talk and hear; and ability to touch and handle tools and/or controls

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to move up and down ladders

  • Ability to work in tight/enclosed spaces such as attics and crawlspaces

  • Noise Level is typically moderate

  • Employee could be exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles and risk of potential shock

We will provide you with training on our program and systems so you feel confident and effective assisting our clients with accessing home health, safety, and efficiency improvement incentives.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Flexibility: 20-30 hours/week, hybrid work schedule after in-office training with 1-2 days in the office per week.

  • Competitive pay: $25/hour with step-up to $30/hr after training and evaluation and future raises after 3, 6, and 12 month performance reviews
