To add to the bounty, this month the League of Oregon Cities gave its Award for Excellence to the City of Corvallis for its organization-wide Sustainability Management System. The SMS is a mechanism to: identify the impacts of the city’s activities; develop and prioritize improvement projects; create metrics and measurement devices; and develop audit procedures, training, documentation, and document management processes. Last week the Oregon chapter of the American Public Works Association gave the City of Corvallis the Julian Award for Sustainability, which "recognizes individuals, practices or projects that showcase the role of public works in furthering the principles of sustainability. The awards are intended to recognize systems thinking, long term design practices, and infrastructure systems that sustain society." The City was recognized in the category of agency wide policies. Other categories include operating practices, procedures or programs, projects or facilities, and an individual long-termsustainability efforts.
There is much good work going on in our community!
