Greetings everyone,
Stop by the Safe Streets For All (SS4A) Open House tonight at the Corvallis Library from 5-7pm. You can learn and ask questions about the SS4A project to develop a Transportation Safety Action Plan for Corvallis and Benton County. I'll be there!
Here's the link for more info about the SS4A project:
Also, please scroll down this webpage to the "Safety Concern Comment Map." This is your chance to identify unsafe locations for biking, rolling, and walking in Corvallis and Benton County. The city and county need to hear directly from the sustainable transportation community about your experiences with active transportation (and driving). Here's why:
- Bike and motor vehicle collisions and the injuries to the cyclist are under-reported and many do not make it into the official crash and safety data.
- Even less reported: Bicyclists getting "doored" in the bike lane by someone getting out of their car in the parking lane.
- Completely unreported: Close calls or near misses with motor vehicles that discourage people from walking, biking, and rolling to move around town.
- Completely missing in the official statistics: Streets and intersections avoided by people using active transportation because it is too stressful, scary, or unsafe.
For all these reasons, the city and county need to know about your experiences. If you know anyone who has been hit by a driver, doored in the bike lane, or think our streets and intersections are too dangerous or stressful to use active transportation, please forward them this link and ask them to share their experiences and identify unsafe or stressful locations. The deadline for comments is April 27.
Take care, Steve
