At the SAFE Corvallis happy hour last night over mulled cider, we found out that some people hadn't heard about the Downtown Vitality Strategy task force's public survey.

There are a few strategies related to transportation, like "Emphasize downtown accessibility, walkability, and biking by providing safe corridors of travel", and, "Complete missing segments of bicycle and pedestrian connections to downtown."

You can vote for your priorities at the survey found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/priorityactions

Where is the option for requesting increased parking to include a parking garage for downtown?

It’s great that we all want a better, safer, more bike and walk friendly community, but we live in rural Oregon and it doesn’t always work to focus on public transit or bikes.

Downtown Corvallis needs more parking, which would also allow for more streetside restaurant seating and provide for more people to visit downtown to spend more money downtown at local businesses.

There needs to be an option for people to add their own priorities, or else this is nothing more than asking people whether they prefer sardines or oysters on their pizza.

Hi Shawn-

There is no option for that (parking garage) for several reasons.
     1. There was a Downtown Parking Task Force that has already run its course, leading to results that address parking in the downtown core. There is a city web page for that if you want to read more. The members of the Downtown Vitality Strategy Task Force declined to address parking because the work of the Parking Task Force did not need to be re-done. More information can be found here:
     2. Data collected by experts and reviewed by the city (and the parking task force) shows there is an abundance of parking in the downtown area, but poor management of same and the result creates a problem. This problem has been identified (see entry #1) and should be addressed starting in 2026. Again, there is more information on the city website.
     3. The cost of a parking garage is much higher than most people realize, and as the city has enough parking there is no reason to take on that cost. There is lots of evidence that parking garages are too expensive for most smaller cities to afford... did you see that interesting article in The Corvallis Advocate about parking and OSU? It mentions the expense of parking garages and is pertinent to your question. .Check it out:
