Marge Stevens passes on the following from Sightline.

  • At the start of 2023, new rules to lift parking requirements went into effect across Oregon.
  • Already, they’re helping the state make progress on its ambitious plan to address Oregon’s severe housing shortage, legalizing housing projects that had been blocked by local governments on the basis of parking minimums.
  • Homes for aging seniors, a new complex of permanently affordable housing, and a downtown suburban apartment project—none would have been built without the rule change.
  • In the Portland-area suburbs alone, the parking reforms will reduce the barriers to delivering 10 percent of the statewide housing production target.

This is just what we have been recommending!
