Dear Land Use Action team members,

The OSU Youth Mappers group and I have been discussing going out to collect locational information and photos of examples of middle housing in Corvallis to help the community better understand what this density of housing would look like.

The Youth Mappers have gotten back to me with two dates during which they are able to collect spatial data (locations on a map and photos) to help with this effort.

The first date is Monday, April 21st, the second is Monday, May 5.

For the first date, April 21st, we are hoping to be able to walk from campus to the North, East and South and collect some data.  For the second date, if we need to go further afield, we will get an OSU van.

My request to each of you is to send me locational information on specific examples that you are aware of for each of these types:  cottage clusters, duplexes and triplexes.

We hope to collect a good set of examples of each of these types from different neighborhoods.

Please send the locational information to me before next Friday, April 18th so that I can plan out their data collection routes.

Many thanks!

Dear Land Use Action Team members,

I had sent out this request last week to ask for your help in identifying examples around Corvallis of "middle housing" that the Youth Mappers could collect GPS location and photos of.

I have not heard back from anyone yet but we need suggestions before Monday, April 21st to help guide their data collection efforts.

Please send me locational information that I can pass on to this group of OSU students who would like to help with this effort!

Many thanks
Laurie Becker

There seems to a lot of examples in south Corvallis. Coho on Crystal Lake, Wake Robins new low income units, other new units along 99 South and inside Willamette landing. Some new houses off the end of Powel.
7th and Western huge building.
All over the eastern side of campus.
10th St south of Western has a new bldg misplaced in a neighborhood of small houses. Also on 12 St near ‘D’ St.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Laurie,

Here are some examples I’m aware of from my bike rides around Corvallis:

Duplexes

  • 210 – 394 NE Conifer Blvd.
  • 1747 – 1799 SE Bethel Street
  • 2904 NW Johnson (I don’t have time to walk over there, but it’s either that address or the one next door. This is a good example, since it’s tucked in a neighborhood with single family homes.)

Courts

  • 210 – 226 SE Lilly Avenue
  • Basil Court: 720 NW 33rd Street and 3308 NW Fillmore Ave.
  • 1357 NW Harrison Blvd.
  • 1327 NW 23rd Street

There are a lot more duplexes around town, but these are the ones that came immediately to mind.

I hope this helps!

Annette

Laurie, how about the housing on 53rd street between Windflower and south of Country Club? There is a cluster of duplexes and then a group of both apartments and smaller joined housing, maybe fourplexes.

Corvallis, OR is located within the traditional homelands of the Marys River or Champinefu Band of Kalapuya. Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya etc. Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon. Today, living descendants of these people are a part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon (https://www.grandronde.org) and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians (https://ctsi.nsn.us).

Greetings all,

Thanks for the suggestions that you have sent!  It is appreciated as I was also trying to imagine locations in my mind and needed help!

Please keep the suggestions coming - especially for larger triplexes and Quadplexes.

I have taken all your suggestions and compiled them into a word doc for the Youth Mappers to use.
They will be collecting GPs data points and photos near campus tomorrow and then hopefully will be able to venture further afield on the next outing - May 5th.

Much appreciated!

Laurie
