Hello Neighbors:
We have some important legislative updates!
1) There will be a joint House & Senate Committee informational hearing on the CAFO issue on February 28th at 5pm. There will not be opportunity to testify at this hearing, but it is important that we show up to demonstrate that we expect the legislature to act on stopping the proliferation of industrial chicken operations in our communities.
2) HB 2667 has stalled out on the House side and will NOT be moving through Rep. Helm's Committee. Instead, Senator Golden is using something called "Gut & Stuff" and inserting the language from HB 2667 into SB 85 and will be moving SB 85 through his committee on the Senate side. SB 85 will put a moratorium on Tier 2 CAFOs (the largest category of CAFOs in the state) until 2031 and will direct the state agencies to ensure that Oregon has rules in place that safeguard rural communities.
3)There will be a public hearing on SB 85 at 8am on either 3/13 or 3/15 (We haven't confirmed the exact date and time yet, but it will be one of these days) and we need people to testify. Testimony can come in the form of in-person, remotely or written. The most impactful will be in-person testimony and we want to get as many rural people out to testify for this hearing as we can.
This is where you come in! Please fill out this form and let us know if you can attend the February 28th informational hearing in person and if you can testify either remotely or in person on March 13th or 15th @ 8am. This is one of the moments we all have been working so hard for and we need you to help carry us forward!
We are attempting to secure some buses to take people from the Scio/Stayton/Jordan areas to testify in March to avoid parking challenges.
Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions!

PS. Keep up those calls and emails into legislator offices! They are working!
