We hope you are all enjoying the summer sunshine as much as we are! We’ve got some great outdoor events coming up, and hope you’ll join us. As always, we will start with a potluck, so feel free to bring some snacks or a drink to share, as well as your own reusable utensils and plates.

Tool Library Visioning Meeting
July 30, 6:30p

Braeburn @ 1410 E. Pine St.*
Have you ever needed a tool for one quick and simple project, and didn't want to buy it? Or what about a really expensive tool that you just can't afford? Tool Library to the rescue! Join us as we plan to build our own tool library in Capitol Hill! We need your help to make it happen!

We'll be working through our large list of things to do, including grant research and marketing opportunities.
We'd love to have you join us with your ideas and your energy!

*There are two doors, so make sure you go to the 1410 door, where you can get buzzed in (there will be a sign at the door with instructions).

Apartment Composting with Seattle Tilth
August 5, 6:30p

Braeburn Courtyard @ 1410 E. Pine St.
Are you interested in turning your food waste into black gold? You might think it's hard to compost in an apartment, but Seattle Tilth will show us how to transform our food scraps into a valuable garden commodity without the mess and fuss of a traditional compost pile, using vermiculture.

Sustainable Food Systems Potluck
Late August (Date TBD)

In conjunction with Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, join the conversation about food on Capitol Hill: compost, urban farms, food equity, fruit tree harvesting, community kitchens, community food resilience, and any other topics you might be interested in! And lawn games. Oh yes, lawn games!

Beacon Food Forest Tour
September 9, 6:30p

BFF Site, SW corner of Jefferson Park on Dakota St and 15th Ave. S
Community, local food systems, resilient local ecosystems: what's not to love about the Beacon Food Forest?! Beacon Food Forest is a perennial, self-sustaining, permaculture project, with fruit and nut trees, berry bushes, herbs, and plenty of other edible plants, available for neighbors to tour,

touch, and taste. It is in the process of being built, and will eventually cover 7 acres. Come tour this exceptional edible wilderness growing in our own backyard!

PARK(ing) Day
September 20

Capitol Hill (Details TBD)

If you could do anything you wanted, what would you do in a parking space? The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat. Join SCH as we create a park for a day, with fun events to celebrate.

Broadway Farmers’ Market
SCH will be tabling periodically this year at the Broadway Farmers’ Market, including this Sunday, July 28 (check our calendar for more dates). We will have some fun activities, so come visit us under the trees near the corner of Pine and Broadway! Bring your usb cables and devices to try out our solar usb charger, and learn more about Solarize Seattle; bring some pedal power energy for our spin art cycle, and learn more about our tool library planning.

Solarize Seattle
SCH is partnering with Solarize Seattle to bring solar panels to our neighbors at a discount. If you’ve been thinking about getting solar panels for your home, now’s a great time, with all the rebates, as well as the group buying power Solarize Seattle is fostering. Come check out some sample panels at our table at the farmers market, or better yet, go to a meeting to find out more about the program.

Get Involved!
And if you guys have any ideas for future events you’d like to see happen, or would like to get involved in planning, feel free to email here, or join our planning group, which meets briefly after every event.
