The meeting agenda is still being developed by Leanne Krueger-Braneky of SBN Philadelphia, Derek Long of Sustainable Connections, Vicki Pozzebon of Santa Fe Alliance, Elissa Sangelli of Local First, Grand Rapids and Beth Geagan of Sustainable Community Connections of Idaho. If you would like to join this committee, or if you just have ideas you want to contribute, please contact Network Services Director, Alissa Barron. This special meeting is only open to current network staff and board members and will also include BALLE staff and board.

REMINDER -- Our deadline for discounted registration rates ends this Wednesday, February 17!

Rates through the 17th are as follows:
  • $465 for general registrants
  • $415 for BALLE networks       
  • $345 for groups of 6 or more
  • $325 for groups of 10 or more

9am-5:30pm  Pre-Conference Training Workshop: How to Build a Local BALLE Network with Michelle Long, executive director of BALLE.       

2pm-6pm  Living Economy Tour (I)

(I) North Charleston: This tour is of businesses at the Navy Yard at Noisette, which is being reshaped as a sustainable community, and is followed by Green Drinks at a local pizzeria serving local brew.

Friday, May 21

9am-3pm  BALLE Network Leader Meeting: A day for peer exchange between staff and board members of current BALLE networks and BALLE staff and board.

12pm-4pm  Living Economy Tours (II & II)

(II) City Mouse: This tour focuses on the progressive preservation of Charleston's historic downtown.

(III) Country Mouse: This farm-to-table tour explores South Carolina's revitalization of local agriculture for regional markets.

5pm  Main Conference Opening Reception on the lawn of a historic downtown building with live music, drinks, and the Mayor of Charleston.

7pm  Local Dine Around: Our local guides are lining up some great restaurants for you to enjoy! Watch for more updates regarding reservations.

Festivities will include:
  • Friday evening, we'll open the conference with a true southern welcome: a hosted reception on the lawn of the Pratt-Thomas Walker offices housed in a restored 1850s mansion in downtown Charleston.
  • Saturday evening, we'll enjoy "Bluegrass and Brew" while Jimmy Hagood of Food for the Southern Soul, a Memphis BBQ champion, cooks up some southern-style BBQ.
  • Sunday night, we'll spend together in Marion Square, home of Charleston's Farmers' Market, for a "Taste of the Lowcountry" featuring local chefs, the great flavors of the region, and an excellent local jazz trio.
  • In addition, the Living Economy Tours -- via biodiesel bus on Thursday, May 20 and Friday, May 21 -- will feature Charleston's redeveloped Navy Yard, the progressive preservation of historic downtown, an organic brewery, a local farm tour, and much more! Please watch for details online.
