Farmshed Openhouse:

On Monday, November 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the Pinery Room at the
Portage County Library in downtown Stevens Point, there will be an
open house hosted by the volunteer organization, Central Rivers
Farmshed.

This will be an opportunity to meet members of Farmshed and learn more
about projects they are organizing around the idea of celebrating and
locating sources for food that's grown locally. The event is a
response to the strong public interest for the possibility of a
community-supported facility to grow food throughout the year. Many
local residents turned out for events organized around Will Allen's
recent visit to Stevens Point to hear about Growing Power, his
initiative centered on urban gardening. Other projects that will be
described at Monday's open house will include: publication of the
third edition of the Farm Fresh Atlas, the farmer-incubator program to
encourage and mentor young farmers, the Farm-to-School grant operating
within the Stevens Point School District, and discussion groups using
books, selected readings or films to jump-start small group dialogue
about topics related to climate change and possibilities for a local
food economy. If you have questions please call 592-4423 or 592-4051.
