Email herbal.app...@gmail.com to register!
When: The program is 6 weeks long, and takes place on Tuesdays or Thursdays (students may choose one of these weekdays, but not both) from 10AM-2:30PM. Susquehanna Apothecary can accommodate 2 students at a time. This program is ongoing throughout the year, and new students may enroll any time there are fewer than two current students, and may begin their 6 week apprenticeship from the date of their enrollment. One missed day only may be made up during a 7th week.
Where: At our apothecary space, which is in a shared working space called Ananda Integration.
223B W. Walnut St. (in the rear, up the metal staircase)
Lancaster, PA 17603
Cost: $225, due by the first day of the program. This fee is non-refundable, except in the instance of serious medical emergencies. Payable via PayPal, cash, or card.
Program Content: This is a working apprenticeship. Students will experience the daily process of making herbal medicines and dietary supplements, including tinctures, salves, essential oils, and encapsulation, as well as foraging and processing of raw herbs. This program does not focus on clinical herbalism, nor the treatment of clients/patients. The focus is on medicine-making and professional herbalism. Students will be expected to participate in the completion of practical tasks within the apothecary, rather than merely being an audience for demonstrations.
Teachers: The program will be led by Lauren Martin and Benjamin Weiss. Lauren received an herbalism certification from Sacred Plant Traditions. She works at Susquehanna Apothecary, maintains her own home herb garden, and crafts a line of balms and skin-care products. Ben mentored under herbalist Sarah Preston of Herbs from the Labyrinth. He is the owner of Susquehanna Apothecary and the manager of Urban Edge Farm.
