For the past year and a half, Benjamin Weiss and a crew of friends, staff, volunteers, & students have been busily engaged in the setting-up of Urban Edge Farm! Now, it's finally time to show off the project!
Urban Edge Farm is located within the city limits of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in a forgotten neighborhood called Sunnyside, along the banks of the Conestoga River. The farm has been granted Lancaster City’s first ever “Community Gardening” zoning variance. The focus of the farm is on agroforestry techniques, such as gardening with native riparian tree crops, edible & medicinal mushroom cultivation, biochar & compost production, beekeeping, experimentation with regenerative forestry techniques, as well as production of medicinal herbs for use by Susquehanna Apothecary. The farm is a living classroom that has already hosted scores of students.
Please join Ben & company for a guided tour of the farm on Saturday July 27th at either 11am, 12:30pm, or 2pm. Guest speakers TBA. The tour will demonstrate all of the concepts & systems of sustainable agriculture & earth stewardship that are on display at Lancaster's newest & most unique cutting-edge example of urban agriculture...
Parking is extremely limited, so pleas carpool or ride a bicycle, and we ask that you only stay for one tour. Thanks!!!
Urban Edge Farm is located at 117 Reedy Lane Lancaster, PA 17603.
