Thistotally customizable, and unique, media player still stands out from the crowd and looks to be going from strength to strength. The software incorporates scrobbling with the last.FM app, which means you can capture your mobile listening in real-time. The Intuitive interface delivers consistent access to the Winamp home screen, player controls and the play queue for full functionality. You can also manage temporary track listings by sorting or saving as a playlist.

I just discovered this website. So I was surprised to find out there is an android version of my favorite Winamp player which I still use for so many years on my laptop.

Downloaded and extracted the .zip file to find out that it contains 5 .apk files. I only install apps from the PlayStore but this time I will make an exception.

Is there anybody here who can tell me how to install Winamp on my smartphone? Thanks.

The application is great, but could in the near future as all of us who use Android applications and devices so of course it is necessary to use an equalizer and that of course raises the graphical display. Just like a real equalizer to work on the PC version.

Your favorite music player from the '90s and early 2000s is still trying to make a comeback. Winamp confirms its "Winamp For Creators" platform has over 17,000 artists, and public versions of Winamp mobile for Android and iOS are still on track to arrive this year. Those Llamas better watch out!

In early 2023, a completely new version of Winamp arrived after years of silence. The classic version is still around, as is the original version of its latest service at player.winamp.com, available for both desktop and mobile browsers. However, in April, the company finally debuted Winamp Mobile, albeit in beta form, which is still under active development.

This week, Winamp dropped a press release detailing how it now has over 17,000 artists on the Creators platform, which aims to be something similar to Patreon, where fans can support artists and subscribe to music. As a result, artists have complete control over the distribution and monetization of their work. Sure, most of those songs came from another platform, Jamendo, which the parent company owns, but it's a sign things are trending in the right direction.

According to Winamp, the platform hopes to have nearly 100,000 artists on board by the end of 2024. However, in the near term, it'll still be releasing its NFT functionality within the next two months, along with finally releasing Winamp mobile to the public.

The press release said, "The final mobile versions of Winamp Player are also planned by the end of 2023." Unfortunately, we're not entirely sure how many features will be available. We don't know if it will allow for playback of local media files in addition to streaming from creators, NFT integration, or other features.

I recently had the joy of setting up a new smartphone. One of my (probably not so efficient) habits while doing this was browsing through all my Play Store apps to install the ones I needed. Just before the list ended, I was suddenly struck with one almost-forgotten app: Winamp.

Winamp has become very successful at only Version 2.x. Later, the catastrophic version 3.0, while having great features, was miserably slow. Only with version 5.0 had its developers reconciled with fans.

What always impressed me with Winamp (excluding botched version 3.x) was how incredibly fast it loaded while having a manageable download size. For the screenshots in this article I downloaded version 2.95, which is about 3 MB.

The wide variety of skins was also awesome and, of course, plugins. They could generate wonderful visualizations on the screen, although my previous PC sometimes came to the end of its limits with these. A plugin that could play copy-protected iTunes files was also very practical. The Winamp library facilitated the management of my MP3 collection, so I was never tempted to use a different player. Even with an iPod, my main music player was Winamp, even though iTunes had the more modern UI in some ways.

Winamp even survived my move to Linux because I had to simultaneously feed my iPod with music, so Windows always remained on my PC. Only with a notebook did I switch to Linux. Gradually the iPod became my main playback device, leading Winamp to fall gradually into oblivion.

Meanwhile, the future of Winamp looks set. The installer remains on the internet today and the latest version bears the number 5.666. The website www.winamp.com is still online and the hope is that there might be a revival. The brand is now in Belgium, under Radionomy since September, 2015. There are, however, no more updates on the Winamp Twitter profile.

Everyone has heard about Winamp. Some people may use alternatives, but over the decades this application built a reputation for itself. It is one of the first music players in the industry, and the app shows no signs of stopping. Winamp is the wine amongst music players: the longer it stays around, the better it impresses. This great application is now available for your tiny pocket devices.

The developers took their time when converting Winamp for android devices. The app looks gorgeous and is perfectly compatible with the pc version. The aesthetics give older fans their dose of nostalgia, and younger ones can see and feel how multimedia players looked back in the days. You will find it surprising how easy it is to use this player and navigate through its options. Get it and have your Windows or Mac multimedia library on your phone.

Yes. To get the best out of Winamp, you need to purchase the paid version. The free one does not support synchronization nor WMA. Ordinary phones can play mp3 formats, and modern music players are more streaming services, like Spotify, than just players.

Winamp for Android is a good looking and easy to use an adaptation of a legendary program. The greatest strength of this app is the option to synchronize with your computer, whether you use a Mac or a Windows.

WACUP (which can be pronounced as wakeup or wac-up or however you prefer it in your native tongue) is my vision of what a media player should be whilst still being compatible with the plug-ins for some of the most popular media players that you are used to. My plan is to include bug fixes, updates of existing features & most importantly new features with the goal to eventually become its own highly compatible media player.

WACUP is heavily based around a plug-in system making it simple to tailor you WACUP install to be what you want it to be. When its finally out of being a preview build an SDK will eventually be offered so new plug-ins can then be made to add additional features.

WACUP is still under development with a functioning preview build that can be downloaded here. As this is pre-release software there can be issues which can be reported in the preview discussion forum. We recommend installing this WACUP Preview build into it's own separate directory from your existing software install until it is feature complete.

As an independent project & due to the amount of time & effort which is involved, I am accepting donations (and other means of support) to help cover my living costs whilst I'm working on getting this developed & released. As at this time, this is a full-time project for me whilst I see where the future will take me & this project.

It is however not being done as an open source project & there are other options out there if that's something you need your software to be. It does rely on open source libraries & a number of modified plug-ins for which their changes are being provided to comply with their code licensing requirements.

Ultimately I don't want to spend the time to run a properly done open source project when there's no guarantee of any assistance vs the overhead involved & my time management isn't great so spending more time on project management isn't imho a good use of my time.

I also hold to the view that source code without at least 1 developer is pointless & implies a dead / abandoned project. I do appreciate that it does allow for taking things on if it's then entered into such a state without any developer(s) attached as I've done with some of the plug-ins which has benefited WACUP. So whilst I'm in a position to keep making WACUP I don't intend on open sourcing all of it & view doing that as the end of my time developing it.

Note: Beta builds are intentionally not made publicly available to download & that's the purpose of providing a preview build which will often be an older beta build that is ok for a wider audience to use & where it's issues are known about unlike a new beta build which can be super buggy at times!

The intention of becoming a WACUP beta tester is to help ensure WACUP is ready for a wider audience as part of the preview & eventual non-preview releases. As such being accepted as a beta tester is not guaranteed due to being a single developer & needing to manage the size of the group so it's not too much.

Beta testing also means that you're going to be experiencing broken builds & other annoyances so only if you're ok with such things should you even consider making the request to be a beta tester. If this is just a case of FOMO or thinking it's something magical then being a WACUP beta tester is not for you.

Please Note: Requests to be a beta tester are not guaranteed to be accepted & not following instructions will very likely cause the request to be dismissed. If you can't follow instructions beforehand then how can you be expected to do so if given access & when being asked for information &/or to follow additional steps to resolve issues - it's all to help me & I've had too many waste my time already so I will be keeping things limited & is why the Preview build exists.
