Im trying to install Ubuntu 16.04 from a USB drive. I'm using Rufus to create a bootable stick, but everytime I click start, it starts, and then gives the error ISO image extraction failure. What can I do?
for me the case was that I deleted the rufus_files folder rufus created when it's ran for the very first time. Actually, I keep a different folder for softwares, so i only copied .exe after i did my first iso extraction with rufus and deleted the folder (rufus_files).
I was trying to create the bootable USB from my office laptop and got in to this issue. I have read many solutions and it didn't work out. From one answer they said it might be due to the anti-virus effect and i tried using my personal laptop and it did work out.
In my case, the USB drive was encrypted with BitLocker. I had to remove BitLocker from the drive before it worked. In Windows, just search for BitLocker from the start menu, and see if BitLocker-To-Go is enabled for your drive. Disabling it, then trying Rufus again to write Ubuntu to the drive worked.
Are you experiencing Rufus ISO image extraction failure? If you are, this post is worth reading. It provides you with 4 solutions. Now, explore the content with MiniTool Partition Wizard.
If the ISO file is corrupted, you will experience Rufus ISO image extraction failure. Therefore, it is necessary to check the integrity of the ISO file after you receive the ISO image extraction issue. You can do that by using Windows File Checksum Integrity Verifier (FCIV).
Alternatively, mount the file from your File Explorer and test whether you can view the files within it to check the integrity of the ISO file. If the ISO file is corrupted, reload the ISO file and construct a USB boot again.
On some occasions, formatting the USB drive before using can fix ISO image extraction failure in Rufus. USB formatters like MiniTool Partition Wizard, Disk Management, and Diskpart allow you to format a USB easily. Here, we show you how to format a USB drive by using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
Step 3: In the prompted window, configure format settings and click OK to save changes. For instance, you are able to set partition label, file system, and cluster size based on your demands.
If there are issues with the USB drive, try using a different USB device. Then continue the operation to see if the Rufus ISO image extraction failure disappears. If necessary, update the USB driver via Device Manager.

We now have a formatted flash drive and downloaded bios file. Copy the bios file, A3500_A10.exe to the flash drive. Open PowerShell or Cmd (Windows key + R and type CMD ) and go the flash drive. Run the following two commands to create the hdr and rom file:
Brother, your solution was very effective, for a vostro 3300, change the names to winery30.hdr and winery30.rom. I followed your steps and it allowed me to recover the bios and even install the bios that had problems.
The accepted method is to update the BIOS with the official A12 version BIOS first and then update the BIOS again using the Modded A12 BIOS version.
Any and all info related to this modded BIOS is in the link shown above and it is advised you read through the posts for such information as you require for your setup and obviously prior to any further updating from A10 version BIOS.
Thank you so much! Why is that information not available at the
dell.com site and where did you have that information from? At
dell.com is only that: -us/sln300716/how-to-recover-the-bios-on-a-dell-computer-or-tablet?lang=en
Gracias, no he logrado entrar al modo recovery en mi vostro 3700 con otros metodos, voy a probar tus instrucciones: con la tecla fin y el dispositivo usb formateado con rufus en freeDOS. Luego les comento, deseenme suerte.
This instruction is for BIOS update 3500A12.exe, otherwise the same method for other BIOS update downloaded file but obviosly the file name has to be changed in down below instructions for writehdrfile and writeromfile extraction from the exe file.
It is thanks to you Rudy, that I managed to recover by following your procedure, after no success multiple times, I searched for the latest Rufus Software and formatted the dFlash drive to 512, and succeeded recovery.
You could try removing the Hard Drive and following the above Rudy procedure, I formatted the Flash Drive with latest Rufus in 512 bytes, worth a try, Flash Drive I used was 1GB.Hope you have Luck, I have no idea in Flashing BIOS while on Motherboard
Yeah, even tried in Windows XP on virtual as i thought it might be issue with win10 and tried on all BIOS exe available on Dell support (A11, A12, A14) /writeromfile /writehdrfile -writeromfile -writehdrfile and nothing ? just starts flashing software
Thanks for a great instruction. Just recovered my Vostro 3700 which failed during a BIOS A12 update. Carefully followed all steps and it worked first time using the rearmost USB socket on the right hand side. I will now leave well alone on the original A10 BIOS !
Hi Rudy we copied the files and plugged the USB in the laptop in all 4 ports but still no luck it keeps restarting the lights flash and you hear the fan kick in then it all stops and it repeats the process just wondered if you have any other info that would help us
Hi Rudy and everyone,
I have a Dell Vostro 3700 with this problem. I have followed your instruction and your recommendation but it seems not working for me. But what i found out is that, i do not have amifldrv64.sys in my flash contents.
I have tried with both 2Gb, 8Gb and 16Gb Flash, but all to no avail. I also tried different USB ports on the Laptop. After the Laptop tries to read the flash, nothing happens. I also download Dell Vostro 3500 Bios to see if the extraction would have the amifldrv64.sys but it does not have it either.
Have a discussion with your vet about what tests may be recommended for your dog prior to anesthesia. Veterinarians can tailor anesthetic drugs and procedures based on the results of these tests to minimize the risks associated with anesthesia.
All dogs should be monitored under anesthesia, but this is especially crucial for older dogs who may have sudden issues with their vitals. Anesthetic monitoring can be anything from a dedicated technician monitoring heart and respiration rate, to a pulse oximeter measuring oxygen levels, to an EKG, a capnograph measuring carbon dioxide output, blood pressure monitoring, and more.
Some of these tests require special equipment, and not all veterinary hospitals have advanced monitoring. Before your dog has an anesthetic procedure, have a conversation with your veterinarian about how your dear old dog will be monitored during the procedure.
For some dogs, it may be prudent to have the procedure done at a specialty referral hospital, where they have more advanced equipment and even board-certified veterinary anesthesiologists to monitor patients.
You may be surprised to hear that the most dangerous time for anesthesia is actually the first three hours after the procedure is completed. Statistically, this is when most animals have adverse anesthetic events. Just like what happened with Teddy, animals can do great during surgery and then have life-threatening complications during recovery.
Post-operative monitoring is critical for any patient, and this is even more important in older dogs who may have more trouble with breathing and circulation. Your vet will have a plan for pre-operative testing, intra-operative monitoring, and a post-op plan as well. For more intensive procedures, he or she may recommend your dog stay overnight, or be transferred to a 24-hour facility if needed.
Dear Judy,
I understand what a difficult decision this must be for you. I wish I could tell you what was best or know for certain how things would turn out. Please know you are not alone and so many other are facing a similar situation with their beloved pup too. I hope you will find the advice you need to make the best choice for you and Madison. Wishing you both nothing but the best and praying for a clear path forward.
