A personal top ten is difficult, because it changes with my mood ;-)

But I will try, in random order to put here my best 14 upmixes based only on surround, not on personal music taste:

- All albums by Entheogenic
- Los Lobos - Kiko
- Karunesh - Sky's beyond
- Duncan Browne - Songs of Love and War
- Paul Hardcastle - Jazzmasters VI
- Isao Tomita - Greatest Hits
- XII Alfonso - Darwin
- Shiva - Oracle
- Michael Garrison - Prisms
- Eric Burdon - Good Times
- Deep Forest & Paul Sharma - Deep India
- 10 CC - 13 Best songs
- Jeff Wayne - War of the Worlds. (IMHO it outperforms the retail surround)
- Kraftwerk - 8 albums on one DVD
- Luther Wright and The Wrongs - Rebuild the Wall

These are the best upmixes I ever made, but there are more, but I can't remember evryone...... done thousands of albums in 19 years ;-)

These are good upmixes with the music as main reference.
- The Rolling Stones - 2 x Bluray (DTS HD)
- The Alan Parsons Project - Bluray with 3 albums from ADHD (DTS HD)
- The Alan Parsons Project - all albums on one DVD
- Pink Floyd - Wish you were here and others.

Please leave feedback here when you downloaded and listened to any. I appreciate the feedback a lot.

Even if your criticism is negative, just post it. I worked together with Kempfand ( Dr Kempf). I gave him an idea and he built it into a routine. I tried and listened and gave back my criticism From some routines we had 5 or more versions. So my feedback as not always positive. He learned more from the negative ones to improve what he wrote. That lead to the pre-finale WAMINU. It stands for Wiggins Ambisisonics decoder, Multiple Inputs, Nugen ISL 5.1 limiter. We used the well known Center Cut Gui to make the multiple inputs, center and sides. Those files were LEAD TO panorama, which makes B-format and B-fornat is decoded by the WADto AMBISONICS. The limiter is NECESSARY when the difference between the separate were too high.
We thought it worked perfect.
Years later Kempfand and I lost a bit contact due to circumstance beyond our control. I decided at a certain moment that I wanted to have an all in one solution without having to throw the files first through CCG.
So I did a long test of all VST's thatwere able to make a Center and Sides uot of stereo. All freeware ones and the most commercial ones. And I found that outperforms all others. A very clean sou d, no artefacts, no distortion. And thus the final version was made S2S, stereo to surround.
It can handle all kinds of music except victims of the loudnesswar. Everything louder than - 12 Db RMS doesn't come out good......
I hope you like this background information.
I will write a guide complete with all the software and place it on the hub.
Grtz,
EoH

Regarding your list of top conversions, I only knew Kraftwerk, Jeff Wayne, and Luther Wright. I agree they all are Top, excellent separation, and a perfect sound field around it. As you can guess, my favorite is Kraftwerk. It is just perfect and could well be a top commercial release.

As for the other conversions on your list, I didn’t know them, thus downloaded from you from the Hub. Could not yet listen to these yet, but am very keen, and will give you feedback on these later.

Hmm, difficult to know what to say and how to say it.

I first decided to listen to War of the Worlds as I've not listened to it for years. I have both the original double LP and double CD. I queued up the CD release (I've never heard the retail surround version) , played through the Meridian pre-amp set to Trifield as normal) and hit play on the computer (which was playing with through the DTS decoder in the Meridian) and CD player at the same time then switched between the two with the remote control. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trifield for an explanation of Trifield)

I can see what you are trying to do, but I prefer the Trifield version. Actually yours is very very similar to the Trifield (including effects 'flying around the room'), but yours has a more rear volume bias and more rear 'air' if that makes sense? I lowered the rear volume of yours to match the Trifield version.  It's difficult to describe the differences but yours feels more 'forced' whilst the Trifield version gives a more 'natural' front biased soundstage. Also just randomly hitting the remote button in a darkened room I soon got confused as to which I was listening to, so I suppose that says that both your version and the Meridian Trifield version are both excellent! I suppose it's subjective as to which is better. Actually I'd say that neither is better, they're just different and I prefer a more front biased soundstage, which is what Trifield provides me with.

I'm looking forward to listening to the other albums you've listed, especially the ones I've not heard before.

Deep India, never heard this album before. Wish the neighbours were out it deserves to be played LOUD ! I collect RealWorld Records CD's (so far I've collected about 2/3rds of their releases, well over a hundred) So you could say I'm into 'World' music!

Sounds good, I had to reduce the rear channels by around 5dB. Other than that it sounds as I would expect it should. I don't have anything to compare it with. When I say 'sounds like I expect it should' I always play two channel material with Trifield surround upmixing to 5.1. Your upmix sounds like I'd expect Trifield upmixing to sound. That's meant to be a compliment!

Los Lobos Kiko, Didn't enjoy, only listened to a few tracks at random Not an album I'd buy. Pass. Sorry but I'm not going to listen to music I don't enjoy.

Entheogenic Flight of Urubus. As above.

Karunesh - Sky's beyond. Beautiful music, Definitely one to play late at night whilst chilling out before bed.

ManxMinx, have you ever heard Imelda May?  IMHO, she is the finest female vocalist on the scene today.  *Such* a voice!! And pretty darn easy on the eyes, too...

LOL, Trifield is also one of the methods Kempfand wrote in the past ;-)
And my criticism there ? Not enough in the rears ! LOL !!
But for songs that don't separate good it's a method I sometimes use, but rarely.
Are you a Garrison fan ? LOL @

Thanks for the feedback.

I can imagine that, however I have always been open to request and think that 40 % of my 9000+ upmixes were a request.. You won't believe what kind of thrash I had to listen to sometimes ;-)
FWIW I don't ask you to like the music, but want criticism on the surround. At the same time I can understand that if you really don't like the music, it's useless to ask your opinion about the surround.
No worries,

kind regards,

Aart

Hey Aart,

Where will I find the “Kraftwerk 8 Albums on one DVD” to download?

Hope you’re feeling good 👍

Thanks

Just to add a note:  I had 3 different upmixes of Supertramp's Crime Of The Century album.  I did some critical listening tests tonight.  Hands down, EOH's version was the absolute best.  I have deleted all the other versions from my drive.  Needless to say, this is an awesome album, and it's a pleasure to have it available in a quality surround format.  Thanks EOH!

I have downloaded quite a few of EOH's mixes.  Been spending time converting them from DTS WAV to multichannel FLAC.  I prefer FLAC because it can be properly tagged.  Also, DTS can cause some issues with different types of players.  If you prefer FLAC (and properly tagged), you can get them from my shares.  I clearly mark all of them as (EOH Upmix) in the folder names.

On Luther Wrights Build The Wall, the mix is fantastic, but it's not my type of music, so I didn't keep it.  To me, it sounded a bit "Country".  But if it's your cup of tea, definitely grab it.   Fantastic surround mix.

EOH, thanks for all the effort you put forward!  Much appreciated.
