Hi all,

A quick update for you all. We are giving this month a miss as most of
the regulars are unavailable (me included) so the next meet will be on
Tuesday June 28th at the usual time and place.

I'm on the hunt for two speakers for that night. If you fancy it
please let me know. If you would like to do a talk feel free to pick
any (vaguely) Ruby related topic or if you're not sure, take a look at
the suggestions forum: http://surreyrubyists.uservoice.com.

Once I have a couple of victims....err... I mean volunteers I'll post
up the information. I'll try to be a bit more descriptive this time
around as I didn't do a good job of this last time.

Cheers

Andy

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that in June we will be doing something a
little different. This month we will be holding our first SRUG coding
competition!

Details are on the website (http://surreyrubyists.tumblr.com) but in a
nutshell: we will be playing a well known turn based game. Your job in
pairs or individuals is to implement an AI player of this game. You'll
get about 2 hours to perfect your player then we will have a knockout
contest where these players are pitted against each other in a battle
to the death. The last player standing will be crowed SRUG champion.

If you're interested in taking part please register via the website.

We welcome both experts and newbies, I hoping that some experts will
be generous enough to take a newbie under their wing ;o)

Please let me know what you think.

Regards

Andy

First of all, thanks to everyone that came tonight. I think everyone
enjoyed the evening and learnt a lot.

Congrats to threedaymonk for getting two players to the final, that
was pretty hardcore!

For those that are interested, all the game code and players are now
up on github: http://github.com/andypike/hangman. Feel free to tweak
your player to see if you can beat the infamous threedaymonk (normal)
player.

The full draw and results are in the knockout.xls file which is in the
root.

If you have any feedback (positive or negative) please let me know
(even small code improvements) and if you fancy speaking next time
round, please let me know (suggestions here: http://surreyrubyists.uservoice.com)

Cheers

Andy
