Normally, we use Monday as our sightseeing day with no presentations, but this year we scheduled one for first thing Monday morning. Last year when we went to this school our driver got lost and we arrived about 30 minutes after we were supposed to start. This year we made sure to be there early which meant that we needed to leave at around 6:00 am. We arrived in good time but maybe a little sleepy. They all did wake up in time for the presentation though. We did a couple of songs and skits and then talked to them about how David trusted God even through the tough times using Psalm 22.
Every year, I emphasize that we need to be willing to be stretched by God. Sometimes God stretches us by what He asks us to do. Sometimes it is what we cannot do. For the first time in her four years on mission's trips to Peru, Joy was not able to be part of the presentation as her voice had not recuperated yet. It was tough for her to watch instead of actively participating but God sometimes asks us to rest on Him and sometimes He makes us rest.
After the presentation, we headed out on our sightseeing and souvenir shopping day. We drove through a mountain area with interesting rock structures, went to a sandy beach, a modern mall, a rocky beach, and then shopping. A highlight of the each year is when we eat pizza on pizza street. As we were eating, a sketch artist came by and several team members had their sketches made for $1 or $2 depending on what style of picture they wanted. After a little more shopping, we returned home following a long day. Most fell asleep in our "combi" (the van we use for transportation) on the way home and went to bed fairly soon after arriving at home.
