The previous two trips that we have taken, we have conducted youth conferences on one of the Saturdays but this year I was thinking of changing the conference to a teacher's conference as that will be one of our ministries when we arrive in Peru full-time. When I proposed the idea to the pastor that was our main contact in Peru, he liked the idea of a teacher's conference but also thought that there were many that were also expecting the youth conference. So, we decided to do both. We held the teacher's conference from 9 am to 2 pm, had a two hour break and then went from 4 pm to 8:30 pm with the youth conference.

We had around 65 people for the teacher's conference where we talked about the Laws of Teaching emphasizing that if we want to make a permanent change in the life of a student, we have start with the heart. Only Christ can change the heart as our heart is deceitful above all things. We also gave practical tips of how to be a better teacher in a regular classroom as well as Sunday school. We had four lesson times split up with some purposeful group activities and lunch. The team members assisted with preparing the meals and handing them out and then doing part of our program as part of one of the sessions.

For the youth conference, the team members started each session with a couple songs and skits. They also assisted with the activity time, preparing the evening snack and handing it out to the people. We had around 85 young people present for the conference from about 7 different churches. The theme for the conference was "Distinct Teens: Separated for His Service." We talked about how to base our decisions on God's Word and not on human wisdom and gave several principles of Biblical decision making.

It was a good day, but a very long day and I may have over done it as I started to feel it in my throat by the end of the day.
