Children’s Programs Toward the end of summer we had the opportunity to participate as the missionary of the week in a children’s day camp. During the week there were nine children who accepted Christ as Savior. They also raised over $300 to be sent to a church in Peru which works with orphans and needy children. Summer work at School As we continue to raise support, I am still serving as the Technology Coordinator at the Christian school. The end of the summer is always busy preparing for the new school year. Mission’s Conference in North Carolina We had the privilege of being in my uncle’s church during their mission’s conference which was a special blessing for several reasons. We were blessed by having the opportunity to sing with their choir, encouraged by the involvement in ministry of the teens, and challenged by the messages on faith brought by Andy Bonikowsky, missionary to Spain. One of the many new friends that we made during the mission’s conference was Carlos. Though he was born in Mexico, he does not speak much Spanish yet he met and brought to church two different Hispanic men during the week. I had the privilege to lead Jose Luis to the Lord on Friday while Danny, the son of the missionary to Spain, led Francisco to the Lord on Sunday. Mission’s Office Work As we were near the home office of our mission board, I took two days to work on a couple projects enhancing the mission board’s website. We have added a Donations page (http://www.odbm.org/index.php/donations) which describes the various ways that contributions can be made to the home office as well as to the individual missionaries. Family Visit Since we had a couple days before our next mission’s conference, we headed out to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a short family visit with my parents and family. The girls especially enjoyed playing with the new kitten as well as seeing the family. Mission’s Conference in Kansas After driving up from Tulsa on Saturday, we met Pastor Byford and the other missionaries for dinner. We had a busy few days teaching Sunday school, presenting our ministry, preaching in church and in the school’s chapel, as well as teaching about the history and culture of Peru to the school’s secondary and elementary. The church was gracious to place us in the home of Robert and Jeanie Murphy whose children quickly befriended ours Though the conference officially ended on Wednesday, we stayed one more night to get some rest and get caught up on some school work. Because we were still in town, I joined the church in their Thursday night visitation. The pastor had two Mexican families that had sent their children to VBS but whose parents spoke little English. I had the opportunity to visit both families and to witness to Marta, one of the mothers. She had made a profession of faith as a child but recognized that she did not understand what she was doing but had only copied the others. As I took her through her need for Christ, she broke down recognizing her “errors” but was not ready to give her life to Christ at that time. She told me that she would read her Bible and think about what I had said and would then come to church and tell me when she was ready. Since I will not be there, I left her my phone number and email address for her to contact me. Praises
