Hi sweetie

Thanks for writing to me.
I can't tell you how much I can relate to your stress.
I was picked on for YEARS because of my arms and I was JUST like you: NEVER wearing T-shirts or shortsleeves, even in the hot days of summer.
I would suffer all day long, sweating and feeling embarassed.

Some people would come up to me and ask: "Um, aren't you hot? It's SUMMER!" and then they would laugh and I would feel so much worse.

I don't know if you've read my profile on Girls With Hairy Arms, but I resorted to many types of hair removal; even shaving and BURNING the hair off with a lighter because I was so miserable.
Let me tell you; NONE of that stuff is good for you, and you know what?
It's not even WORTH IT.
You got through a lot of money and pain and stress, just to remove the hair on your arms, because of what OTHER people think?

I know it's hard to listen to me when I say this but, don't listen to others.
You listen to yourself.
You were BORN this way for a reason; to be different and unique and beautiful.

You say you can't even stand looking at your arms; I felt the same way, for a very long time.
When I discovered "Girls With Hairy Arms" though, I realized how silly I was being.
Take some time and go through the website; there are so many MANY girls who model their arms, because there are people who LOVE the hair, and find it very beautiful.

Just because we live in a place right now, where it's a fashion not to have any hair, doesn't mean you have to believe in it!

Listen, if at first you're having a hard time getting used to your arms, what I would recommend you try, is perhaps bleaching?

That is, if your hair is dark.
Is the hair blonde or black?

If you have dark hair on your arms, try the bleach. You can buy it at any Shoppers Drug Mart or WalMart - anywhere that sells wax supplies.
But this isn't REMOVING the hair, just lightening the colour.

Back in the day, I tried it once or twice, and while it doesn't remove the hair completely, it does become a BIT less noticeable.
Try it if you must - and let us know how you feel afterward?
Try also not to go into the bright sun after you bleach, because this will make the hair show up more (like reflecting light).

I hope this helps; I really don't want you to be going through this misery anymore - it's really not right and you should try to start looking at yourself in a new light.
I'm sure EACH and every one of the beautiful models on our website would tell you the same =)

Write anytime - let me know later on if you tried the bleach or if you need anymore advice.
Hopefully you end up not having to do ANYTHING and just leave your arms the way they are, because trust me there are a lot of hidden masses out there who LOVE it, as you should!

Stay natural and beautiful =)

Hi,

No no hehe you can still go in the sun! Don't worry!
But I just mean if you don't want the light to reflect  a lot off of the blonde hairs, then just avoid TOO much sun.

Again, I would much rather you try to do nothing at all to your beautiful arms - they are fine the way they are!
But if you want to give the bleach a try, just remember that it might shine a lot in the sun.

That's all I meant!

Let me know how it goes ok?
I tried it a few times and it was fine, so don't be scared.
It will be all right!

The trick with bleach, is that you don't have to leave it on for the recommended time.
The longer you leave it on, the WHITER the hairs will become.

After awhile, I got the hang of just leaving it on for less time than it dictates, so that instead of having WHITE blond hairs on your arms (which can look a little weird I suppose) you just lighten them from being BLACK to perhaps light brown.

Again this depends on how MUCH hair you have; I don't know what your arms look like but, I have an awful lot of hair on my arms so bleaching too long would make the hair stand out very brightly.

Give it a try if you wish; remember you can scrape off some of the bleach after a few minutes to see how light it has become, and then keep it on for longer if you want, or remove it once it has reached the desired tone.

Good luck!

Hi yes I am still here :)

Let me know that you received all of my replies ok?
As I said before, there were some technical difficulties so I'm not
sure that you were able to read them all immediately.

Best of luck!

ooh.

ok, well i tried lemon juice today because i was looking up on google
that if you use lemon juice that it will ighten it up and sit in the
sun i did those things and it didnt really help, one arm is not that
bad at all,, but its just the other one other people tell me its
nothing and its just a little bit of hairs, but thats not what i see,
at my age not very many people in my class have anything on their
arms, but me
,
it is really embarrising to tell my dad to buy me bleech for my arms
*embarrised face* but i will ask him.
thanks

Lemon Juice?

I've actually never heard of that for arms - although I have heard
that if you lighten other things with lemon juice, you have to sit out
in the hot sun for it to work.
lol so now it seems you'd NEED to go out in the sun after all.

But seriously, don't worry about your father - I'm sure that even if
he thinks it's a bit odd at first, he'll eventually understand that
it's just something you're going through right now.
As I said already, hopefully this will just be a step towards you
accepting your arms the way they are.

You say one arm is hairier than the other?
That I've never really heard of either!

I can relate to how the rest of your classmates have nothing on their
arms; I was always the only one who was hairy, growing up.
It sucked BIG time...

Now though, since I've met a lot of other girls with hairy arms, it
doesn't bother me as much.
I think it only bugs me when I go out and someone says something mean
or makes a face - then, I'm only human right?
I still feel a little bit bad, obviously but...the feeling goes away a
LOT faster now that I'm more grown up and getting used to it.

It takes time - you'll get there! :)

an they put hott needles into your skin
i was gunna get that for my arms, but since i heard that they do
needles in to your skin then im not gunna do that,
i think your right, and im just wanna learn to live with it
Thanks for the great advice.

Sweetie, I'm SO glad to hear you say that!

In time you WILL be able to accept who you are and realize that it is actually a thing of beauty, not ugliness - no matter what some small-minded people have to say, right?
Look at me; I'm getting better and better with it, as time goes by.

Electrolysis, yeowch.
You know, I have a cousin who is just as hairy as I am, and her family is a bit more well-off than mine...so she was able to go do electrolysis, not just on her upper lip or arms...all over her body.

She went and tortured herself there for more than THREE YEARS.

I can honestly say, her situation has not changed.
I'm really sorry to have to tell you this, but it doesn't work.
I wouldn't tell you that if I hadn't had first-hand experience with it, seeing my cousin and her sister go through all that pain for NOTHING.
They could have saved that money for something better you know?

I'm not so sure about laser; I guess with extended visits, it could work...but I haven't tried it.

Try to just be who you were meant to be instead, if you can.

Did you try the bleach?
Don't forget to message and let me know how it went.

Hi, yes I'm here.
Sorry sometimes things are a little busy and I can't get to monitor
this group as often as I would like.

Yes bleach can be pretty costly in the long run as well as wax,
sugaring, or anything else.

This is also why in the first place I had said it is probably best to
just do nothing.
Both for the better quality of life for you (loving yourself the way
you are) as well as for the money spending, right??
Not only that but bleach can be a hassle; making the time, constantly
to spread it on, and let it work.
Gets a bit messy, smelly and tiresome after awhile.

I had also said that you could try it ONCE just to see how it works...
If you like the results, then it is up to you to continue.
However, I had thought the bleach would not be a permanent thing; just
something to do for awhile until you can get used to your arms being
hairy.

It's certainly cheaper than laser or electrolysis.

Let me know - maybe you can just try to start wearing shortsleeves
when you're alone or just with family, and get used to the way your
arms look?
That was something I did awhile back, to just GET USED to the concept
of having hairy arms.

Again sorry - it is hard to constantly keep track of the column as
frequently as I would like, but I do always get to your messages, no
worries!

I understand completely about the mood changes.
There are some days when I feel OK to wander around and let people
make faces at my arms and whatnot.
I just get more confident during those times - but then the next day,
I will see a picture of a nice, smooth hairless model in a magazine or
something, and I'll think, Wow...I really feel weird and hairy right
now.

But I'm still trying to manage as best as I can - like I said, it
takes awhile and a lot of mental work to properly LOVE ourselves the
way we are, right?

As for where to buy the bleach, you can find it almost anywhere when
it comes to department stores.
Wal-Mart, Zellers, Shoppers Drug Mart - they all have it.
It's called "Jolen" in case you don't know which one to buy, that one
works the best I hear.

Thanks again for writing - ANYTIME you need to talk, let me know

If it sticks up, it might make it more noticeable yes.

This is why I advised you from the start to try and not really do
ANYTHING =)
It might actually be the best decision.

Why don't you try going around without wearing sleeves, every so
often.
Just sort of psych yourself up for it, perhaps just for an hour a day?

It would be good practise to just get used to going out - then you
won't feel as weird later on, right?
