Esteemed colleague,
In a recent order against one of our senior member surgeon, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission West Bengal has crossed all the limits in putting blame for every possible complication on the operating surgeon and awarding hefty fine in lakhs and also ruining the reputation gained after decades of professional surgical practice and service to the society. Such incidences are happening across the country and they are on rise. It has become fashionable to abuse and blame fraternity for any lapse in the health care services. Both central and state governments have failed in their primary duty to provide decent health care to its citizen. They bring legislations or talk against doctors to distract people from the core issue. We must show resistance and respond to absurd propaganda of media, politicians and other so called intellectuals and preachers in the society to stop this ongoing hate campaign as society cannot afford to live without doctors.
Click here to view copy of the judgment against one of our colleague is one such example which is likely to make life of the practicing surgeons more difficult and insecure. The Association of Surgeons of India has decided to take up such cases for the larger interest of the surgeons and the society. ASI will appeal against this erroneous judgment at the National Commission and will take the fight to the logical conclusion.
Regards,Truly yours,
Dr. Shiva K. Misra
President
The Association of Surgeons of India
