Chicken is fowl. I was picking up at Tyson once and I was impressed at first by the appearance etc.Once I bumped the dock I noticed an issue w one of my trailer doors. I walked down to check it out and next thing you know I was standing in this "puddle" of foul smelling water. Until I made it somewhere to wash my boots, they smelled like death. And it permeated into the truck.

Hundreds of years ago, I worked two summers at Rockingham Poultry in Timberville, VA. At the time it was one of the largest chicken plants on the East Coast. The smells were the worst, but eventually one became nose blind to it.

LOL, was a big chicken raising place on the west side of the I-605 freeway, between the freeway, and the flood channel in So Cal. Everytime we headed to Whittier to in-laws etc, you could smell that stanky smell for a minute lol.... It's gone now, I "think" a tree nursery in its spot, or more strawberry growers, I haven't been down that way in awhile.

My worst load, though, was some kind of beef product out of Dodge City, KS. The whole way back east, I had blood coming out of the drains of the trailer, hitting the tires, then getting thrown everywhere. I would park at a rest area, and a stream of blood would start flowing downhill from my trailer. I had blood on my catwalk until I could get the truck washed.

Homes can be invaded, and through our experience, so can camping trailers. After our invasion, I researched the stink bug. While there are over five thousand species of stink bug in the world, the current villain is the brown marmorated variety ("When Twenty-six Thousand Stink Bugs Invade Your Home"). Airstream, the royalty of travel trailers, is not so royal that the stink bugs are reluctant to invade, and our sixteen-foot Basecamp we found especially vulnerable. Here's how it all went down not in a galaxy far, far away but in a state campground a little over an hour away.

Folding bike secured, rear door screen rolled upOur Airstream Basecamp is a tiny, 16-foot toy hauler travel trailer. I've traveled with a folding bicycle secured in the trailer's walkway, and kayak's are also stored inside by some. The rear door has a snapped screen to keep out bugs when the door is open. My wife and I have found that the snap screen works well for flying insects and that we can use the screen at night to keep out mosquitoes. However, the stink bug invasion taught us that insects that crawl (although stink bugs also fly) can find ingress by just cozying up to the screen and then finding a small space between the screen and wall; they just keep on edging toward the warmth and then find their way inside.

I'm sure we threw out at least a hundred of the stink bugs while camping, and now even two weeks later I'm still finding a few of the bugs as I clean out and refurbish the trailer for our next trip. Yesterday I winterized the water system and found another five bugs hiding beneath the seat cushions. I threw them outside and then later wondered, am I just seeding my yard for bigger crop of stink bugs for next year?

Hi I recently moved my travel trailer to a mobil home park and my neighbor that has lived at the park for several years has made a complaint about sewer smell going into her mobile home. She says it's been going on for several years, and blames ours and previuos tenant's trailer sewage pipe. Coming out of the ground from my trailer space is a black 10 foot tall 4 inch in diameter pipe that I believe is a "stink pipe" connected to the sewer system of the mobile home park. When weather and wind conditions are just right I believe it causes hydrogen sulfide and methane gases to drift to surrounding trailers. I sometimes smell it too. Below is a link that shows the pipe coming out of the ground. There is no filter cap on it. The neighbor insists we are the problem. What can I do to help correct this problem? What should I say to park management?[postimg.cc]

That section of piping belongs to the trailer park, so she should be complaining to them, not you. It is the space's vent for its trap and has NOTHING to do with your unit, because it would be the same regardless of whether you were there or not.

I recently upgraded to a 2021 MLX, and, when I level out the trailer for towing (based on the small level on the trailer and my own for verification), the prop guard rests only a few inches off the street. I know it's not supposed to have a ton of ground clearance, but I have to back into a driveway with an ever-so-slight incline for storage, and it may as well be like backing into a brick wall. I have to disconnect and lower my hitch to get the back end up in the air high enough to not take a chunk out of the driveway.

How much clearance does the prop have to the top of the guard? It only needs to clear. If you have inches, you could cut and raise the guard. Otherwise, you could lift the trailer on the axles. This might be as simple as changing your torsion angles if you have adjustable torsion axles.

Yeah, a common & frustrating problem. Wonder if you could mod the prop guard to hinge so you could flip it up when needed, provided you are careful of actual prop clearance. Kinda sounds like unplugging a car idiot light but might be an easy fix for you.

If your trailer has some wood paneling and carpeting, it may contain formaldehyde. If you are susceptible to allergies, this will quickly bother you. This has been a problem with the FEMA trailers used after Katrina.

New carpeting has strong chemicals that take time to dissipate. The formaldehyde used in paneling may not do so quickly, and the smell may actually become more acute, when the trailer is stored sealed up in the hot weather.

Another thing that does help, belive it or not, is to spread a box of dryer sheets around the inside of the trailer. Not only do they absorb odors, but I put them in during winter storage to keep mice and other varmints out.

If there is a safe way to do so - burn some candles in the interior. It is the burning that burns off the smells. (For instance, put something down under the candles and then monitor the candles as you work around outside... )

Another product is called Sweet PDZ - it's used as a stall freshner but is non-toxic and completely safe to touch and taste (if you are so inclined). Put a few butter tubs of this around - or spread in your carpeting. This is also excellent to use in the horse area with the shavings. It reduces the odor that might filter between the horses and the LQ.

This could take a while to rid LQ of smells, yours 2001 bought new always smells still when closed tight for a period of time, open windows and ventilate. Not smoking in your house also rids house of smoke smell.

Inhaling scented candles for two hours may result in lead exposure that can threaten human health, according to a 2000 study published in 'The Science of the Total Environment,' conducted by the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan. The study also noted that children may get exposed to lead in candle fumes on the floor, furniture and walls through their "hand-to-mouth" activity. A 2001 report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) called "Candles and Incense as Potential Sources of Indoor Air Pollution" found that scented candles are more likely to produce soot than unscented candles -- the particles of which can potentially penetrate the deepest areas of the lungs. The report also reviewed a study that found that certain candle emissions contained levels of these three chemicals that exceeded EPA-recommended thresholds.
