Why does this happen so much in Tamil cinema? Is it seriously supposed to be some kind of alpha-masculinity that the hero is not interested in women? Or some expression of Tamil woman feisty-piety that she worships the hero and woos him boldly??
While my friends are with you on the song being needless, I felt that it was the actual interval bit in the narrative where the pace of the movie changes as the hunter becomes the hunted. I feel it might have been a bit clunky had they cut the song and straight away went for the change.
And I liked some of the little things so much. Like for instance when they feel ashamed at the salute they gave and slowly lower it to cover their faces and later when Mithran gives the salute, while the receiver is in front of him, he knows whom he salutes as he looks ever so slightly to the right. Maybe not much but I felt that was wonderfully done.
BR: Nope, not a fan. But I felt he did a good job in Unnai pol oruvan and a decent one in Ivan vera maadhiri. Though, his accent worked in the former, it was off in the latter. And then my husband and I made the mistake of watching Achaaram recently. So, was curious how he was in this movie.
Despite my issues with it, I kinda liked TO if only because there was so much that was right with it. Plus, it is always awesome to see Aravind Swamy who has written the book on killing it with restraint!
Thank you BR for pointing me this movie. Watched it yesterday and loved it. I had given up on Ravi after the previous two releases and sidestepped this one not even bothering to watch the trailer, then after reading your review i did another BR. I went to the movie with clean slate and really liked it. Like Siddarth telling his father, Mohan Raja can walk with his head held high. He has made an accomplished movie.
