I just uninstalled avast via its own uninstaller and I realized there is some empty folders and registry record that it left. I tried to delete them with normal methods but I could'nt. so I re-installed avast and tried to delete any files that stored in avast folder and registry keys. but I still cant to modify or delete them. I searched in whole net to understand how can it possible but I can't find any basic answer that explain it. There is only way to delete it via its own uninstaller. and even it uninstalled still some registry and folders cant be deleted.
And now I don't want to delete it anymore, I want to know how it can't be deleted. I tried almost all forced methods. Unlockers, taking ownership methods, safeboot, full access user, modified win ISOs etc.
I hope this isn't glaringly obvious, if so forgive me. I would first open CCleaner/Tools and use the uninstaller in there which always works for me. But some programs leave bits behind. Look in your C: Windows folder for the two Program folders, 'Files' and 'Data', and carefully delete everything under the program name. Also look for folders under its provider's name, occasionally they're different but the entry in CCleaner's uninstaller shows it. Finally, run updated CCleaner 'Health Check', its registry cleanout, and the Windows drive cleaner. Sorry if you've done all that. If it doesn't/didn't help you have a more stubborn program than I've ever come across. But I do vaguely remember having to repeat it all a few times for one of the free malware prog's, it might have been Avast ; they don't like to be dumped ! Best of luck, these things can be infuriating ! Robjn
It has now happened to me twice that when I updated CCleaner from Piriform, I was given the option to download and install Avast Antivirus, after ignoring a warning from Malwarebytes that I have opened an unsafe website. On each occasion, I un-ticked (said NO) to the question if I would like to install Avast Antivirus. The update of CCleaner nevertheless continued downloading and installing Avast Antivirus. You can't have conflicting anti-virus programs on your computer. You need to uninstall either Avast or your old antivirus program. To get rid of Avast Antivirus, you have to download the uninstall tool (avastclear.exe) and uninstall Avast in Windows Safe Mode. Time-consuming and highly annoying. How do I update CCleaner without this forced installation of Avast?
they provide a Slim and Portable build, both without the embedded offering, so that's what you need to download.
the Slim gets released about a week after any new release.
the Portable NORMALLY gets release the same time as a new release - BUT FOR SOME REASON, this release, Piriform have decided to hold out on the Portable build until further notice.
I just Cloned Windows 10 to a SSD for my customers All-in-One PC, Decided the computer needed cleaned up, Installed a updated version of CCleaner, they had an old version, When it asked to install Avast, I unchecked the box, well its still installed Avast anyway....
These people are liars and scoundrels. They know full well that CCleaner free edition installs Avast anti-virus with ZERO warning or consent. Just happened to me with v5.43.6522. BURN IN HELL, Piriform/Avast.
Wouldn't say they are liars, I mean many free software do install or try to install other software in a form of ads because well, Its free anyway. And CClearner works great if they just fix this issue.
I also got hit with Avast on a client's laptop after installing CClearner, and I also unchecked the box to install avast. I no longer have the laptop as I gave it back to my client after repair. My desktop which I just rebuilt, installed a clean version of windows and CCleaner and I unchecked the box for Avast and it never installed. So idk why it does it.
I'm furious, I also ended up with Avast on my computer after instructing it NOT to install it during the latest update. It was almost impossible to remove from my system. It took me TWO DAYS to get all remnants off of my machine and I had to jump through hoops to force it all to delete. It kept saying it was still running after I end tasked, removed it from start-up, changed file names, deleted as many files as I could get permission to (yes, I was denied permission to alter or delete the program even as an administrator on my own machine). I've used Ccleaner for years, I can't believe they would violate people like this in such a sketchy manner, talk about disappointing.
To make it worse, the CCLEANER update made the program work so slow it takes about an hour or just lags indefinitely and never finishes...it used to take less than a minute and I ran it every day to fix DNS errors on my machine that pop up because of VPN usage.
I am extremely disappointed to see some of the things that are going on with Piriform, and CCleaner. I have used it for many years, but between how slow it has become, and these downright deceptive tactics I am reading about,.....I believe it's time to call it quits. Thankfully I am still running an older version due to the ridiculous splash screen after running a cleaning.
Thank you all for the continued feedback. We are working on resolving this. We do know that this affects a very small minority of people. This makes it very difficult to debug, and we are coming to the conclusion that it may require some bigger changes to the installer. This will take time, so please accept our apologies and we very much appreciate your patience.
The first and most important thing you should remember is never to remove antivirus programs just by dragging them into the Trash. This may cause problems when trying to completely uninstall antivirus from a Mac.
If you have already uninstalled Avast before using the official removal guide, we recommend that you check your Mac for Avast leftovers. Please, carefully follow our step-by-step guide to correctly and completely uninstall Avast from your Mac.
The easiest way to entirely and correctly uninstall Avast from Mac is to use App Cleaner & Uninstaller. It is a special utility that allows you to uninstall applications from Mac safely and in less than a minute.
App Cleaner & Uninstaller finds all the service files of applications, so after the removal, no leftovers will remain on your Mac. Even if you deleted apps in a regular way, you can find their leftovers in the Remaining Files section of the menu.

Q: How do I delete Avast overseer from C:/Program Files/Common Files/avast software/overseer? Have run Avast Free for years. The last several months have encountered duplicate desktop shortcuts for Avast about 3-4 minutes after startup is complete. I can delete the shortcut but it always returns on the next startup. I have disabled/deleted Overseer from Task Manager. Finally disabled the Avast Emergency Update entry in Task manager, and apparently resolved the problem. I really have no need for Overseer and attempted to delete it. However, it fails even though logged in as an Administrator/Owner with password. Indications are I don't have administrator permission for that location. Any thoughts, ideas, actions, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I have benefited from your assistance in the past. Thanks for any considerations.
I'm an amateur programmer, and I'm getting desperate and mad because of a big issue: most of my programs are blocked by Avast Antivirus, while some aren't, and I don't understand why.The more I try to investigate, the less I understand what the problem could be.
There are already many topics about that on the web. However, most of them give only superficial answers: they just explain how antivirus software works with signatures and detection heuristics, or state that you just have to add the offending application in the white list without asking any other question. While it is certainly correct, it's not acceptable answers in my sense, because I'm still left with my own programs that refuse to work without any concrete idea to start investigating.
First of all, the only antivirus software that blocks my programs is Avast 7.x. No other antivirus software see any inconvenient to run my software. Secondly, I haven't installed Avast myself; it is installed on a friend's machine.
