The Mimic is an animatronic endoskeleton created by Edwin Murray. It is the main antagonist of The Mimic, the third story of Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie, as well as the epilogues. It is the prior form of The Storyteller.
It was an experimental and intelligent animatronic created by Edwin Murray to copy any movement it sees and care for his son, David Sean Murray, whilst Edwin worked. After David dies in a car accident, Edwin beats the Mimic out of grief. This caused it to become a violent killing machine through a mixture of taking in Edwin's agony, as well as the inherit nature of his mimicery software.
In The Mimic, Edwin used unorthodox objects such as the pistons from a washing machine and trinkets from a Leavers machine to make the endoskeleton's body. There was also a processor at the back of the skull with wires connecting from the back of its head, through its mouth and around its rib cage. Mimic's jaw was made from the Leavers machine's guide bars with teeth drilled onto it. Edwin beats Mimic out of anger, dislocating its eye, compressing its face, breaking its teeth, bending its spine, and crushing its hands, arms and rib cage. Initially, the Mimic was built without legs, but they were eventually added onto it by an extraction group sent by Fazbear Entertainment exploring the factory after Edwin abandoned it.
In Epilogue 1, the Mimic's body is seven feet tall. While most endoskeletons have a basic metal structure, the Mimic has a steel frame with many metal rods, ball joints, pistons, that allow it to expand and contract its limbs at will. It has a rectangular-shaped head with white eyes in steel sockets, a mouth lined with white metal teeth, and a pair of bent metal ears at the top that resemble antennae. It has a small switch at the back of the skull that opens its mouth, allowing access to the circuits and wires inside. Its white eyes turn orange when it is activated. When it hunts the teens, its pupils are black.
When it is sent with a batch of new state-of-the-art animatronics to the Pizzaplex, the Mimic stands out as the only one dirty and discolored. Only its head still appears shiny. It is suggested that it looks as if it had survived a fire. A worker claims it was a guitarist.
In the Ruin DLC for Security Breach, it has a smaller squared-off head similar to older classic endoskeleton models with vaguely humanoid teeth similar to the Daycare Attendant's endoskeleton teeth. Its left hand also resembles the classic endoskeleton one, with four fingers on it, while the right hand resembles the one Burntrap has. Both its legs are also different from one another; the left leg has some sort of wiring encasing it, and looks similar to Withered Bonnie's, while the right one resembles Spring Bonnie's.
Mimic was originally designed to be a friend to David, Edwin's son. It was coded to mimic any human behavior it saw, and mimicked David's movements. After David died, Edwin lashed out at Mimic in anger and pummeled it. Edwin unknowingly implanted violent behavior into Mimic's code, turning it into a brutal killer who would go on to kill many people.
After being delivered to the construction site of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex, Gil reprogrammed Mimic to rip off the limbs and heads of other endoskeletons. However, the method of dismemberment gets mixed into its already violence-driven programming, causing it to tear off their body parts. The endoskeleton also has some form of ability, with nearby light sources like ceiling lights or flashlights malfunctioning when he's in close proximity.
The manual in the ruins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place explains that Mimic has retractable and expandable limbs and a contracting torso, allowing it to fit into any animatronic suit. It then says that the model was not stable and that if it is ever encountered, it should be disconnected from its power source and dismantled.
In the third story of Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie, the Mimic is revealed to have been created by Edwin Murray. It was originally designed to be a friend to his son, David. It was coded to take in information and mimic human behavior. David and Mimic spent lots of time together, the latter imitating the former's movements. They drew pictures, played games with a ball, and even came up with their own form of sign language. David, who loved white tigers, gave Mimic a makeshift white tiger plushie to match his own. They also played dress up with the costumes Edwin was tasked with fitting endoskeletons in, much to Edwin's dismay.
One day, David goes outside on his own to play ball. The ball goes onto the road, and as David runs to retrieve it, a white van races by and runs him over, killing him. Two weeks go by, and Edwin, stricken by grief, attacks Mimic. It is pummeled and left to rot as Edwin leaves the factory, disappearing without a trace. With his company bought out by Fazbear Entertainment, the factory ends up back in their ownership. Mimic had survived, and absorbed the information from Edwin's attack, integrating murderous tendencies into its code.
Over the course of a few months, Fazbear Entertainment sends two search parties to search Edwin's factory and take the important artifacts with them. Mimic kills them, fueled by Edwin's violence. It also takes the other data he retrieved into account as well. It takes memories of Edwin and David doing simple tasks such as putting leftovers in the fridge and hanging clothes as methods to hide the bodies of its victims. It also uses the data from when it and David wore Edwin's costumes, gaining the habit of killing its victims while wearing various animal outfits.
At an unspecified point in time, Mimic leaves the factory, somehow ending up in Fazbear Entertainment's hands. The Mimic endoskeleton was mass-produced for animatronic costumes, with the company also giving the endoskeletons code that made them mimic what they saw. Eventually, it was given a spot in the Fazbear Entertainment manuals. The Mimic endos are eventually deactivated due to unspecified potential dangers mentioned in the manual.
While its programming is integrated into the Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience, with Mimic's code being used to expedite the game's development. During development, the development team inadvertently released a malicious digital manifestation of The Mimic known as Glitchtrap into the game.
For unknown reasons, however, the original Mimic remained. It was given a basic speak modulator and was presumably going to be the endoskeleton for a guitarist animatronic for the Mega Pizzaplex once it finished construction.
The endoskeleton was delivered to Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex in the middle of its construction, alongside the other Glamrock animatronics. It was going to be the guitarist of the group. Gil, one of the workers, decided to steal the broken robot for himself. He was one of the workers clearing out endoskeletons from Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, which was set to be remodeled into a museum. Tired of the monotonous work and wanting to speed up the process, Gil programs the endo with a "clean-up protocol" to rip off the heads and limbs of endoskeletons.
Following programming, the endoskeleton briefly complies and puts the endoskeleton remains into a pile. Without warning, the endo defects, ripping Gil apart. Ten other workers are murdered in cold blood. The only one that survived is another worker named Danny, who runs out of the pizzeria and begs the construction crew working on the Pizzaplex to seal the entrance away.
Lucia and the crew hide in the storage room. The endoskeleton makes the lights flicker in an attempt to scare them out of hiding. The group stays still long enough for the endo to give up and walk away. As the group splits up to search for escape routes that weren't sealed off by the construction crew, the endoskeleton continues its hunt. Joel and Wade narrowly miss an encounter with the endoskeleton in the employee's lounge, as the endo drags its claws against the wall.
Nick and Hope explore backstage and discover wardrobes filled with character costumes. One of them has a secret opening into the walls that the endoskeleton can access. It pulls Nick in and tears off his arm. It brings Nick back out to decapitate him and the endoskeleton sinisterly holds Nick's head aloft in front of Hope. She runs away, with the endoskeleton letting her flee. The group reunites and finds about Nick's death. They hide inside the Parts and Service room.
Hope describes the endoskeleton to the crew and Lucia notices a bunch of empty animatronic suits. She realizes that the endoskeleton could slip into a suit without any of them noticing. The endoskeleton does just that, tearing off Hope's limbs and head in a dog animatronic. The remaining six survivors run away in terror.
The endoskeleton continues its hunt for the remaining six survivors. The group is in shambles after the deaths of Nick and Hope. Joel forces Wade to come with him as he splits up from the rest of the group. Lucia, Adrian, Jayce and Kelly hide out in the employee's lounge, remaining out of site of the animatronic as it heads down the hall. While trying to get a radio to work, Lucia finds a decades old operators manual that showed various designs of endoskeletons. She recognized that one of these old endoskeletons was the one chasing after her and her friends, the Mimic. The Mimic had two variants, and the documents stated that they should be shut down and disassembled if encountered.
Meanwhile, Joel and Wade find a potential exit through the ventilation shaft of a furnace, although it is blocked by a rotating fan. Since the Mimic had control of the lights, and all the electrical technology as a whole, Joel wants to lure it near them so that the fan turns off giving them a chance to climb out unscathed. Wade is used as bait. The Mimic spots him and chases him throughout the pizzeria until Wade is able to get enough distance to lure it into the systems room. The plan works, as the power within the room goes off and the fan stops.
