Ijust got a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and when I go into my settings then add an account and add a gmail account, it gives me an option to choose what I want to sync. I unchecked 'photos' and 'contacts' and everything else except for 'gmail', but it still auto sync'ed my photos and contacts (and my apps and app data, even though I told it not to). I then deleted the account and tried again but this time, I didn't check anything at all (not even gmail) and it did not sync anything, which is good. But I want to sync only my mail, so then I went into the settings for my account and checked only the 'sync gmail' box and it synced everything again (app, app data, contacts, photos). How do I make it stop syncing everything? I just want to sync my inbox.
you turn off the sync and open the mail app if it is gmail then it is easy as gmail app has its swipe down to refresh mails. but the android email app has no features like this so go to its settings to change it
I have three gmail accounts. All of them are going immediately into their respective archive folders so I can't see them in my inbox. Even when I try to physically move them into my inbox then stay in the archive folder. I have done fairly extensive research on this and it appears to be a Mac Mail issue and not a Gmail issue as this problem is most definitely related to Mac Mail and how it's handling Gmail messages. I think the problem is that Mail is assigning the Archive folder for the Inbox for all the Gmail accounts. I don't see a way to change the default folder for the inbox so how can I fix the problem?
There is an archive function in Apple viewing preferences. But even though it is not checked, every one of my gmails is going into the archive box so I now have 8000+ emails in there. I don't know if I dare do a wholesale delete of all archived emails because I'm afraid that it will delete them from my inbox as well. This "archive" box only recently appeared and I'm fed up trying to get rid of it.
And where is the switch to turn Archiving on or off in Gmail? I even searched Gmail Help and couldn't find it. If you're talking about having Auto-Expunge on or off, that's in IMAP access. Gmail defaults to "Auto-expunge on" when in turn automatically archives all mail. If you select "Auto-epxunge--off" you can chose to move mail to Trash. However, I still cannot FIND the 90,000+ archived emails in my Gmail account. And when I delete them from AppleMail, they just reload immediately.
Thanks, Eric. Unfortunately I've already been to Gmail site, as I mentioned in the post: Gmail defaults to "Auto-expunge on" which in turn automatically archives all mail. If you select "Auto-epxunge--off" you can chose to move mail to Trash, or immediately delete it (permanently). Is this what you're referring to as the archiving function? If not, do you know specifically where that archiving function is in Gmail bc I sure can't find anything other than this auto-expunge on/off feature. More so, I cannot FIND the 90,000+ archived emails in my Gmail account. And when I delete them from AppleMail, they just reload immediately.
If I had to guess, I'd say you have at least one of your email clients set up to access gmail using POP3. When a POP3 client downloads a message, the server flags it as having been read and gmail will remove the inbox tag. POP3 is not designed for use with multiple mail clients. Make sure all of your mail clients are set up to use IMAP to avoid this behavior. IMAP synchronizes all clients and the server.
Neither answer is accurate. I figured it out. I needed to uncheck all the Labels, which are like folders in each Gmail account and I also need to unselect All Mail. Archive in Mail was showing All Mail as the Archive Folder. So it wasn't Archiving at all.
I'm having the same problem using Gmail with Apple mail. Turning off All Mail in labels, as chunnel suggests, makes all of my mail disappear in Apple Mail. Nothing seems to work. I hate the archive function. Give me trash!
I'm not stupid. I turned off the archive in gmail in both of my accounts. Months ago. It is Apple Mail that keeps putting everything in my archive folder. When I unblock "all mail" in labels, I get no gmail in my Apple Mail.
i fixed my issue.the answer was: my thunderbird setup files (some or all) had become corrupted in some way.my solution: copy my thunderbird profile to a separate location.perform a hard uninstall of thunderbird (uninstall, remove original folder structures used by thunderbird, remove all registry items used by thunderbird).re-install thunderbird.then copy my profile files to the new profile for thunderbird.thanks for your help.crichmon
If you use GMail and IMAP, I would suggest to set up filters via
gmail.com webmail instead of in Thunderbird. It has more benefits, e.g. they'll be run on the mailservers directly, so even without running Thunderbird, the messages will be already filtered as you need.
Thunderbird marks messages after you open them (not after downloading). That's why it's called "read". If you want some messages to be marked as read even without opening them, you can set up a filter for that via
gmail.com.
Anyways, I've spent a lot of time configuring thunderbird to my liking, similar to the way that I've had configured outlook. Webmail is great, but I tend to lean more towards apps then websites when configuring my email sorting and storage. Especially considering that I have multiple imap email accounts; using a local app instead of webmail just makes more sense to me.
Thunderbird can be set to apply filter when getting new mail and before junk classification. Isn't that what you want?Action can be set to Mark as read
I probably posted this question too soon. My install of thunderbird has always had the described issues; however, after adding additional email accounts, I also began having the following issue: -US/questions/1113625
Anyways... Regarding the settings for when to apply filters, all of my filters are set that way (getting new mail, before junk classification), but I always had to manually click on an option to cause filtering to occur.
Regarding the "mark as read" issue... I'm not referring to a filter's ability to also mark a filtered message as read. I'm asking about thunderbird's ability to mark messages downloaded from an imap/email account as read... on the imap/email server (such as gmail).
Hopefully that clarifies my question. In the mean time, please direct efforts to my first question, since this particular question can't even be solved until my first question is solved: -US/questions/1113625
The answers from this question goes to my gmail-account and they are NOT downloaded when I start TB or every x-minute (account / settings / server settings) They are downloaded at my choice, like when I set focus on inbox. Copies are kept on this pc (account / settings / synchronization & storage)A filter automatically move them to Local folders/ Mozilla support
1. I'm not confusing message download from imap/gmail with how filters work.2. as far as i know, all of my settings are correct, the way i want them.3. essentially, I believe that my thunderbird mail, settings, etc. files are corrupt.4. given these probable facts of my situation, how should i proceed?5. and yes, I'm asking for help in a support forum.
I apologize if I offended you in any way. As English is not my native languish I think this is a misunderstanding My goal was to tell you whats happens with the email I get about answers (from q in Mozilla Support) on my gmail-account. It works as it should, I therefore told you how my settings were.
If the next step is to start Windows is safe mode, I'm not exactly sure how to do that with Windows 10. The usual way that I've restarted Windows in safe mode doesn't seem to be an option with my install of Windows 10. I'll check the web for answers.
haven't tried adjusting avast too much.tried windows 10 safe mode and thunderbird safe mode with all addons disabled.now email messages on my primary gmail account are automatically marked as read on gmail, but then aren't mapped to the gmail imap inbox in thunderbird.what is going on with thunderbird.
Check your junk settings at Account settings / "account" /junk settings AND also use the button "Global junk preference" as a shortcut to Options / security / junk where you can reset training data if you wish.
Hi, I wonder if I may ask such stupid question. I am currently using outlook for business email which uses the gmail server. I have made labels to catergorize my mails in gmail at the beginning. When I installed the outlook, there were automatically folders with the same names as those labels in gmail appearing on the left. So I suppose the Outlook folders and Gmail labels are corresponding to each other. However, when I move mails into the outlook folders, I found no response in my gmail, which means I have to do the moving twice if I want both outlook and gmail neat. Where should I touch to solve this problem? I want them completely synchronized. Many thanks!
Before I posted my reply, I created a fresh Outlook profile to one of Gmail accounts using IMAP and the attached picture is to illustrate how it looks. Perhaps older version of Outlook requires subscribing to the Gmail label.
