This time there I also learned about Ahimsa silk. What a beautiful and practical idea!

Awesome, Rrituraj.

Unfortunately I didn't have the right round glasses for the occasion (must fix! :-) ).

Also, ahimsa silk is our dear Eri. The pupa for the Eri silkworm actually burrows out of the cocoon before the cocoon is boiled.

So, no life is harmed in the production of Eri, unlike other silks (muga included). Uttam taught this to me on Saturday.

Very encouraging, inspiring and praiseworthy event to see these visitors from the US at Parijat Academy, and that the school's people were able to meet, interact, entertain, and perhaps discuss /update their activities, progress with these US visitors.

I think it will be nice to capture the visit/discussions in minutes, photos, and be available for publicity at the School's website (?)

Wonderful! Mustafa is a long-term supporter of other projects in Assam that AFNA has done. This includes  flood rehabilitation and resilience projects in various parts of Assam in partnership with AID (www.aidindia.org where Mustafa has been a volunteer for many years), Asha for Education (www.ashanet.org), Rural Volunteers Centre (RVC: operating primarily in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts), Purbanchal Social Circle (operating in Goalpara district), Centre for Rural Development (CRD: operating in Assam and elsewhere in India), and other NGOs operating in other districts of Assam. Mustafa has been a passionate voice and champion for north-east India projects at AID and AFNA. 

I am very happy to read about his educational and professional achievements and to see pictures of him and his lovely family in the linked article.

Thank you Satyajit da and Ankur da for your kind notes. 

Yeah, it's been 12+ years since I came to Johns Hopkins in the summer of 2013 and I always have tried my level best to continue small efforts hitherto and thereto. I have been making those efforts as what I call is my PSR- Professional Social Responsibility. I think I coined the term as I don't have read it anywhere but thought in parallel of CSR- corporate social responsibility. The question I always ask myself is as a professional what I can do for society, while understanding and accepting the smallness of individual efforts while appreciating every bit of it.  

 

On a lighter note, looks like the last boat for the immigrants for me to return to India has now left and I am stuck in America as an economic migrant in search of a decent job and decent livelihood! Fortunately enough I took the legal route of immigration here and will not be handcuffed like many Indian nationals have been recently landed in Delhi in US Military Aircraft! 

Jokes apart, I will continue to engage with Parijat Academy and Uttam da with the same spirit. I just got back and caught up with pending items, clearing emails. It has been a delight meeting him and seeing what I have seen.
