Use existing metadata?

I have hundreds of existing files with metadata properties I usually search and manipulate through apps scripts. I'd love to upgrade to Metadrive to give org users a nice UI for managing these properties. Unfortunate, I can't find any way to have Metadrive read my existing property names (e.g. "BatchId" and "ImportSource") or to set the property names Metadrive uses for new fields so they match what I'm already using.

Is it possible to override the machine-generated property names? I'd hate to start from scratch on metadata when I've already got so much in place.
