VIDEO IRON DOME MISSILE TEST IN ISRAEL

The below link shows a short video of the U.S.-Israel developed Iron Dome short-range missile defense system in action.  Iron Dome batteries were successfully used last week to intercept Grad rockets fired from Gaza toward Ashkelon and other civilian population centers.

 

The short video (http://www.jpost.com/VideoArticles/Video/Article.aspx?ID=216014&R=R1) shows the first-ever interception on April 7, first in real time and then in slow motion.  It also shows one of the April 8 interceptions in real time.  This is a defensive weapon system that was developed jointly by Israel and the U.S. specifically to protect Israeli civilian and strategic targets from short range rocket and missile attacks.  A $205 million additional appropriation which just passed as part of the 2011 defense appropriations budget will allow Israel to assemble and deploy at least 8 additional Iron Dome batteries on top of the 2 currently in operation.
