Mark,

Thanks for all the information. I am not sure what is causing this issue. The hyphens don't usually cause a problem, and in my testing I have successfully sorted some very large folders. It may have something to do with sync, but I am not sure.

Does it sort this folder when you press the SuperSorter button? This will help me figure out whether it's an issue with auto-sort or a more general problem.

Thanks!
Richard.

I'm also starting to wonder whether Google Sync may have something to do with this issue. When I first installed SuperSorter, it worked just as advertised. Then I went through a period when it wouldn't sort at all. We went through some fairly extensive troubleshooting -- Do you have a very large number of bookmarks? (No.) Are you using special characters? (No.) And so on. Then, a couple of weeks later, it just started working again (and is working now, after an outage last week).

Could it be that Google Sync is seeing the reordered bookmarks, but is then restoring them to the previous disordered state? Perhaps from some other, open instance of a logged-in Gmail or Google account, say on a phone or a home computer?

So, here might be a way to test this hypothesis: Log into your Gmail account and click the "Details" link at the bottom. Then click the "Sign out all other sessions" button. That will close all other Gmail instances. Then try SuperSorter again. (Or maybe after restarting the browser.) Any better results?

I'm logged out of all other accounts and, as I say, SuperSorter is its old wonderful self today.

Your mileage may vary.

I had great hopes for this plugin, wishing it would fix the HUGE hole
in Chrome that still does not support this obvious and necessary and
simple feature.

(shrug)

Unfortunately, SuperSorter does not work, is not working, for me.

For example, I have a folder called "C".

Inside the folder, I have a lot of bookmarks, among them the following
bookmarks...

Saint Isidore

Saint Christine

Saint Michael

...and they are sorted by SuperSorter, AutoSort=True, in exactly that
order, which is NOT alphabetical.

One can see a screenshot of this issue here...

...in case you want a closer look.

(Hint-- I think the culprit here may be (or may have something to do
with) Sync being turned in Chrome-- and I say this because even
Chrome's manual "reorder by title" command never did work on this
folder. It may also have something to do with the number of bookmarks
in the given folder, which in this case is a little big but no more
than 200 so that should not cause any issues for a computer, but
maybe??? Also, please note that the folder has a few bookmarks of the
form "OneWord - Another Few Words - Another Few Words", where there
are hyphens in the bookmark name. Also, note that this folder that
cannot have its contained bookmarks sorted is a sub-folder of another
folder. So, I mention these things as they might be "hints" at the
problem for you.)

Anyway, please, please, please-- help-- it is 2011 and we (the people
at-large everywhere) need to have our bookmarks sorted because there
is just too much information. And, besides that, sheesh it is just a
sort of text, we should be capable of that by now, right? No, sadly I
do not have time to learn how to write extensions and then implement
this but, cry-key, is it really that impossible even for the Chrome
folks and the brainy extension writer folks? Ug. Please, say it isn't
so. Please, say it can be done. Please, keep hope alive for a better
world, a world with sorted bookmarks for all.

:-)

Please help.

Thanks.

I have the same problem. Supersorter does not sort. It said as auto but even in manual it does not sort anything.

Any help

I think you need to go to the options of supersorter and then you will have to turn off: Ignore bookmarks bar.
Most probably you have your bookmarks in the bookmarks bar.
