Hi folks,

I've managed to get Mojave and SuperCard running on an M4 Mac mini. It's not super fast, but it's just about usable. I've added the instructions to the SC web site:

If anyone wants to try it and wants to take screen shots of the various parts, that'd be a useful addition to the site. I have a working emulator now, and I'm not sure when I'll get around to trying to recreate the VM so I can take screenshots.

Thank you Uli for your work and instructions!
This is much interesting!

I haven't checked yet, but I wonder if Parallels will come up with a version to run MacOS X Mojave or High Sierra on Silicon Mac?

From what I heard they're working on an Intel emulation, but they only mention Windows so far, and they say it is slow and still missing numerous features.

I’ve been trying to get a UTM Mojave vm up and running on my M1Max MBP, so far without success. I used the instructions that the UTM app points to for Mojave. The biggest difference is that the Mojave installer is downloaded directly from the internal drive on the target computer instead of from a flash drive. The installer launches and starts the install, but then fails with an error message suggesting that the installer should be redownloaded. Needless to say downloading a new copy of the installer and going through the operations again does not solve the problem.

Suggestions? I will try Uli’s instructions, but would like to know why the seemingly official process is failing.

Jonathan, I am an amateur at Supercard, I use it for Dungeons and Dragons (really important work, LOL!) but I had to set up that system to keep using it.
I hold down ALT immediately after restarting and it prompts me for what system to use. I hope that helps (I have no clue what your setup is).

Hi Uli,

I’m running into a problem following your instructions for the UTM install.

A question. Does the installer need to be converted to .iso in order to work? That step is part of the config file instructions, but they do not indicate loading from a bootable USB stick.

FWIW, I got the installer to launch from an .iso, but the actual install would fail with an error suggesting that the installer was missing data or was corrupted.

You are right, here is the announcement from Parallels' developpers:

For me, it only worked if I used the USB stick directly. Creating an ISO of the USB stick always led to a Kernel panic of the emulated computer or other weird errors.

Strange! I finally had success after deleting everything for a clean start and using an iso image that someone else created. No idea what they did differently, but their iso file is slightly larger than mine (6.44GB vs. 6.05GB). https://dn720704.ca.archive.org/0/items/macos_iso/Mojave_10.14.6.iso

Everything else was just following the instructions in the UTM config only setup. It took a long time, but the post-install performance seems adequate for my purposes (M1Max with 32GB). Haven’t run into any show stoppers (yet), but also haven’t messed with the guest tools that presumably improve integration.

Looking forward to check out your instructions.

FYI: there are prebuilt UTM VM's for osx Leopard, Tiger, & os9 vms available at archive.org.
I have osX Leopard running on a 2000 M1 mini with apps from my old g4 ppc... SuperCard, quarkXpress, adobe CS... etc.

Working with USB media is tricky... behavior is different on apple silicone vs intel mac.

Changing the default network preference of the VM to "bridged"  was required to enable sharing across the LAN.

VM boots faster than same setup on a G5 ppc mac.
Still testing...
