Hello persistent SC users,

Attempts to open SuperCard 48.3 results in [bad file checksum error] notice, projects will  run when viewed with SupperEdit.

Should I re-install SuperCard? or is there a quick fix?

Sorry, I meant to type SuperEdit.

It sounds like something in your SC Pouch (found in /Library/Application Support/) is hosed.

Does launching projects with the Command key pressed still work?

If so, start by swapping in a fresh copy of the Pouch.

Hi Mark

I can open projects with the Command key down. I have SuperCard 4.81 .  How do I access a fresh copy of the Pouch?

MacBook Pro 1.1 / 15” often requires several start-up attempts and is prone to shutting down.

Thanks for continuing to support the SC app.

I have installed a new copy of SC pouch as per a previous posting of Scott's from August 2021.  However there is no change - I get the same error.

You'll find it on the mounted disk image at: /Volumes/SuperCard Essentials 4.8.1/SuperCard 4.8.1/SC Pouch/SC Help/SuperCard Help.app

Copy it to your Mac at: /Library/Application Support/SuperCard 4.8.1/SC Pouch/SC Help

You'll need to authorize the copy, and you should probably delete the old help app before copying in the new one.

I'm not sure how to take your wording there. Did you replace the whole Pouch, or just SuperCard Help?

If you did replace the Pouch, how precisely did you do it, are you certain the operation (which typically requires authentication) succeeded, and have you emptied the Trash since?

I moved the existing Pouch to a usb and removed the usb

I copied Pouch from DMG and placed it at Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/

originally the Pouch was located in Users/~/Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/ (which is empty now)

You can't MOVE files between volumes, you can only copy them from one to another and then move or delete the original.

The reason this matters is that once set, non-standard Pouch paths (e.g., Users/~/Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/) are stored as aliases. So if the damaged original still exists and the alias is resolvable, then SC will continue using it (even if it's now in a different folder or the Trash, and you’ve placed a fresh copy at the standard path).

Does that ring any bells?

The Pouch has been copied and pasted into the /Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/ (not in the (Users/_/Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/)  location)
The authorization was signed. The machine crashed after that and again when attempting to open Supercard. I will try again tomorrow.

SuperEdit file was defunct and was replaced with the file from DMG
Attempts to open SuperCard result in requests for Authorization.
Attempts to open SuperEdit result in requests for Authorization.
Pouch has been moved to the (Users/~/Library/Application Support/Supercard 4.8.1/ ) location.
Machine continues to crash

Should SuperCard be completly Re-installed SuperCard From DMG???

Is it necessary to have internet on when authorising?

I'm not surprised, since none of those things would affect the potential problem I'm trying to get you to either fix or rule out.

Since we seem to be talking past each other, let's try a different tack...

• Drag your Pouch back to the standard location (i.e., /Library/Application Support/)

• Open the Terminal and run the following command:

defaults delete us.SuperCard.SC481

• Try launching SC again

On restarting I was able to open SuperEdit, then the machine crashed  when trying to open an SC file in SuperEdit.
