Forcing a screen refesh

I have a window that is bigger than my monitor (window is letter sized on my laptop). When I go from card to card (each card is unique) I sometimes have residual images from the previous card. Going to the desktop and back clear it up, but I thought there might be a way to force this every time a card opens. (possibly locking and unlocking the screen when the arrow keys are pressed).

I'll bet someone chimes in about screen caching or bit caching or something that I've long forgotten. I will continue to search out solutions until then.
