Hi all

I'm wondering whether there is a reasonably straightforward way to implement a counter badge on a SC application's dock icon, like the "unread messages" counter on the Mail app's dock icon? I'm tracking incoming orders and would like the badge to show a count of those orders.

Thanks for any input.

Just for fun I copied your question into ChatGPT.

I’ll let you do that on your own …

But I think you could AppleScript what your looking for or perhaps make a terminal call.

Here's a link to an old XFcn called Badger I wrote about fourteen years ago for Xtend, but which for some long forgotten reason Scott didn't want me to add.

IIRC it takes one parameter. If that's 6 characters or less it's assumed to be text to badge the Dock icon with; otherwise it's assumed to be the path to a PNG file to use as the badge.

AFAIK it still works. If you find otherwise, please let me know…

Thanks so much, Bill, Mark and ChatGPT! The XFcn is certainly a little more direct than the AppleScript route, although I figured that would be the way, just didn't know the exact nomenclature.
