I noticed this a few weeks ago, but still haven't had the time to test it properly. I find scripts with Visual Effect seem to be noticeably slower than they were in previous versions.

unlock screen with visual effect "wipe up" for 10

I can't be sure that this isn't my computer (Apple are you messing with old laptops to increase sales?) since I haven't tested this out on other computers.

Also, twice today when hitting RUN from SuperEdit, SuperCard launched without opening my project in run mode....

I am not really seeing this between 4.7.3 and 4.8b32. Although 4.8 is a bit smoother, I really don't perceive it to be any slower.

As for running from SuperEdit... I have never seen this. Maybe try a reboot.

Hi Scott,

This is definitely an OS issue. In 10.8.5 the transitions are slower than on 10.12.3, and this is on the same machine! I have two transitions in one project so I set one to be the right speed for the old OS and left the "slow" one alone, on the new OS the slow transition is what I remember it to be and the modified one is too fast. If you'd like, I could do a video of both and put them side-by-side for you to view, but I suspect that this would be unfixable...

FWIW basically SC is doing the same thing as always. It's just that the relative speed of the system calls it makes to generate and draw the transition steps varies from machine to machine and OS version to OS version.

If you find the slowest is now too fast, you can always set the tranDelay to slow it down.

I seriously doubt this is fixable without us timing each OS version and putting in some form of speed factor for each. It certainly isn't something I'd hold up this release for.

One thing that you could do is adjust the tranStep based on what you get back from systemVersion(long). However that still would involve being aware of the various timing issues across different versions of MacOS.

To tranStep, or tranDelay... that is the question.

Upping the tranStep will produce transitions with more increments, which typically means you’ll actually use the additional horsepower to generate a smoother effect.

Bumping the tranDelay will keep the number of steps the same but add a pause between them.

Adjusting the tranDelay has a more predictable effect if you don’t know where you’ll be running (and don’t want to try to figure out how to adjust it optimally on-the-fly) because it puts a floor under the overall duration (without slowing things down excessively on wimpier hosts).

Thanks Scott. I thought as much.
