I uploaded videos to our hosted space, added quizzes to them, and I need to merge them all together -in a very specific order-. No matter what I do, no matter which video I click "settings" on and which video I target, my first intro video always ends up AFTER the video I want to play second.

Hi again! So, the "add a clip" tool does work well, however, when I do that, the videos lose their captions and quizzes. I'm wondering if there's a way to merge videos together, in a specific order, while keeping the captions and quizzes intact? Thanks!

You just need to make sure that your clips have the captions / quizzes within them. When your master session plays a clip, the rich elements from those clips will be played inside your master session!

@Jay Minster I came across this thread while looking for answers to a similar issue. I am adding clips to a new session, and my clips have quizzes in them. My quizzes are not carrying over into the new session, but I can still access them from the original session so I know they should be there. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

@Jay Minster I personally like to use quizzes in the middle of the streams to gauge understanding before continuing to discuss the reasons behind the answer. For your work around, I believe I'd have to make several copies of the clip and cut/splice them together. I am doing this already to convert a 50 minute lectures into 75 minutes, but it is tedious at best. I hope quiz behavior in clips can carry over at some point in the future. Thank you for the clarification.

@Jay Minster I had not downloaded the podcast before, but I do like that feature. Unfortunately, I use slides and a doc cam in my lectures, with the doc cam recording me working through the problems on the slides. In the podcast format, the doc cam is too small to read my work and renders that video feed useless. The online version allows the videos to be switched, but then I lose the quizzes.

I have 2 videos, each was edited, chopped some slots. When I merge the two videos, I found I have lost the edit I did. I need to re-edit each part in the merged videos. How to keep the edited features when merging two videos?

Hello!
Ive been working with two seemingly big files I referenced into a layout file.
Now the size and updating of the files is becomming a problem and we would like to merge both files into a single one...
The thing is that when I erase the reference, the design layers are imported with a -1 at the end, so they dont collide with the existing... this is solvable but a real pain to do...
Is there a way to actually merge the files like other programs do?
Thanks in advance!

This would produce naming conflicts, aber by chance, I have found in Extras in the design layer manager, there is an option to bulk send objects to a different design layer. That would-should solve the problem swiftly...

Hi, I have more than 50 CSV files that have the same number of columns but the columns are scattered around differently in each file. I would like to merge them together with the correct data in the correct column.

Hi @kv-defy try the third option in this article. The batch macro option has the option to Auto configure by name which would union the columns based on names irrspective on where they are scattered in the files.

For the placeholder file, what files should I put? Initially I put in 1 file that is existing in the directory. But the output for the workflow comes up as duplicated entries for the number of files I have.

Hi @kv-defy as your file is a CSV you won't need to include Sheet name in the filepath that only needed for excel files. Then inside the batch macro I would change the Input file to one of your CSV file. Then lastly I would check the action tool is updating the filepath (It should have the filepath highlighted in the action tool which matches the filepath of your Input Data Tool).

I have merged master into my bugXY branch, and needed to merge a file. But git mergetool failed (my noob fault, I guess), and even though I aborted the merge it left me with a dirty working directory but not in need-to-merge state. I would like to repeat the merge command, but I can't due to some new files left by the merge.

Now nothing is staged any more, but I still have a bunch of untracked working tree files which hinder me to git merge again ("would be overwritten, please [re]move them"). How can I do that? I guess rm path/to/file.php for each of them would work, but there are a lot of them...

If you didn't commit the files before you ran the reset command, then they get wiped out by the reset command. One of the options you have would be to use git reset --hard which will reset you back to the state of the provided commit.

I'm having some trouble figuring out the right way to do this. I have some files that exist in a child branch that I'd like to merge back up to the parent branch...but *only* selected files...not *everything* that's changed from the child branch. Can someone please point me to some documentation somewhere that explains how this can be accomplished?

I've tried right-clicking on the child branch in Branch Explorer, selecting "Merge from this branch", selecting just the files I want to merge, and right-clicking on those files, and there is a "Merge selected files" context menu option, but its grayed out. Not sure why or what I'm doing wrong. Just need to be able to merge a few files back up to a parent branch. Little help?

Plastic SCM 4 relies in the DAG architecture, so, when you are merging from a branch you need to process all the suggested elements. If you are not interested in the full branch content you can use the cherry pick operation with the changesets you are interested in, but you also need to include the full changeset, a subset of it is not allowed.

So, what you're really trying to tell me is, there *is no way* to do what I am wanting to do....just merge selected files....from one branch to another...regardless of changeset. Am I understanding that correctly?

Changesets are atomic, you can't cherry pick individual files from them, because then the merge tracking would fall apart. We went from a non-atomic system (Clearcase) to Plastic and it took a while for people to grasp the concept.

So I know you can go and you can click on both movies in the server and then click combined but I was wondering if there was some sort of plug-in or an automatic thing that would just go through and merge the multiple copies together? In order to avoid people transcoding sometimes I have movies that are low quality and then a 1080 P with full surround and then a 4K.

You could follow this guide, and organise your movie folders with the different versions using 'Multi-version' naming
-movie-naming

Emby will then present all available versions within the same movie details page.

Is there a way to filter the pending changes list to only show files which are really changed so I can do inspect the differences visually? It is very error prone to have to scroll through and manually do this, skipping items that show only [merge].

My current alternative would be to do a diff on the branches, and specifically look in the pending changes window at files which are identified as different, but that is rather cumbersome for something that should be simple.

Edit: Here is a screenshot of the pending changes window. I only care about the items which are [merge, edit] as it means there is a change and I want to see the diff. Conflicts will be shown in the Resolve Conflicts window. I don't care about [merge] items, as they are identical. There are 1000s of files with no changes, but I want to single out the ones that have changed and inspect the diff.

You'll get the Undo Pending Changes dialog with all the items selected. First of all, uncheck everything. Then observe that you have a column named Change and you can sort by it to have all the [Merge] changes stacked together, and you can check them all together and undo only them with a single click.

There is a tool which achieves that, "qbus vMerge" - which is a Visual Studio 2012/2013 plugin available in the Visual Studio Gallery. But it's only free for team projects with up to 5 registered users. In the pre-check-in dialog, you can filter the changes by Edits, Deletes and Adds.

You can do the merge and before checking in the files, just compare your branch folder with the latest version. So if you are merging from anywhere into branch-Servicing for example, Compare $/branch-Servicing with your local workspace for that branch:

If you want to view all changes in a merge, excluding merge-only with no changes, the easiest way is to run tf diff from the VS command line. This will use the diff tool on all changed files. I believe this shows adds as well as edits. I do wish you could sort the pending changes window by type of change action like in previous versions.

Install TFS Power Tools and execute tfpt uu /noget /r * in the root of the branch. As a result, TFS will go through and undo checkouts for any unchanged files whilst leaving your modified files untouched.

Another option is to "Undo Checkout" all the changes, and clicking "No to All" when asked to confirm for undo checkout. This way Visual Studio will "undo checkout" all the files that are not changed, and all the changed files will remain checked out. Drawback: this method undoes renames.

If you do the merge TFS will figure out at run time that the files do not need modification and you will not see them as changed in the annotate tool. However if you pick-and-choose the files to merge you will leave a bunch of "pending merges" hanging around that you will have to deal with later anyway...

Hi@laurenjack ,
One potential solution to this issue could be implementing an automation using a platform like Make.com. You can set up a trigger to detect when a form is completed and submitted, and then use an action to merge specific file columns into a single column.
