Tom's criticism of Mikael Grey's article, How to Become a Rock Star Programmer, starts off promisingly enough:Let's start with the title. There is no such thing as a "Rock Star Programmer," so if you want to become one, you already have problems that reading a blog post can't fix. Rock stars get sex, drugs, parties, limousines, fame, glory, dates with supermodels, and Rolling Stone covers. Good programmers get . . . uh . . . fewer compiler errors. Or fewer runtime errors, depending on which language you're using. So let's not pretend that "Rock Star Programmer" makes any more sense than "lighter-than-air paperweight" or "Rock Star Babysitter."
But the tip he offers is just as flawed as the top ten list he's criticizing:The best way to improve is to study code that is better than your own. Read good code written by experts, in a variety of programming languages. Study it until you understand how it works and what makes it good. That's it. That's the one tip.You won't become a better programmer by passively studying other people's code. Similarly, you don't magically become a better writer by reading a lot of books. You become a better writer by.. wait for it.. writing.Studying code is reasonable advice. It's helpful. But the absolute best way to improve is to write your own damn code! Nothing teaches faster than making your own mistakes, on your own time, on your own terms. So study "good code*" all you want, but write as much code as you can.* whatever that is
*Please note that as of release of Rockstar Game Launcher you can ONLY activate Rockstar codes via that application, you CANNOT activate your code via Rockstar Social Club website anymore
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I need some help on how to do this. Now when I log into my Social Club account I have to do the 2 step verification. I tried a few apps which are needed to do this in order to scan a QR code but the Social Club website asks me to fill in a code instead. These apps however do not generate such a code because I need to fill in a code first myself. So I'm lost here and would appreciate it if someone could help me out.
I love how it says to scan the QR code on the Social Club site, but there isn't one. I did a factory reset to my phone and no longer have the ability to use it on Social Club or use iFruit app. I used the Google Authenticator in the past, but I have to re-verify my phone, but can't.
For my first time setup with Social Club I used the Google Authenticator App. When it asked me to scan the QR code it wasn't available so I used the Manual entry. I remember Google sending me a code to my email address that I put in and I was done.
With the Google Authenticator app I can only choose 'scan QR code' or 'fill in key'. When I choose the second option I then need to enter my account and a key, but again how do I know what key to enter?
EDIT: One more thing. The authenticator is phone specific so when Rockstar gets you running use the Google App to make backup copies of the codes. It will generate 10 codes that you print out and store in your home. Then if you switch phones you use one of those codes to get the new phone recognized.
Xbox and PepsiCo will also be hosting weekly sweepstakes, which fans can enter with rewards points. These giveaways include custom game-themed e-bikes from SUPER73, PC gaming rigs, and bundles of Xbox consoles and accessories. Rockstar Energy Drink code entries also automatically put players in contention for the ultimate grand prize, a decked-out Starfield-inspired 2023 Corvette Stingray. ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK is also kicking things off with a Starfield-themed event featuring a live performance by The Kid LAROI tonight October 5th at 8:00 PM PST from the NRG Castle in Los Angeles and streaming on Twitch.tv/NRGGG.
To earn rewards faster, entrants can multiply points by combining codes from multiple brands. Entering two codes from two different brands (such as one from a DORITOS item and one from MTN DEW) results in two times the standard number of points. For maximum rewards, submit three codes from all three brands to triple the bonus points received.
I today installed Gta v and then entered activation code And then when I opened Gta V launcher then it showed GTAV exited unexpectedly and then i rebooted my laptop and then again i opened play gtav.exe and this time it is showing Please enter activation code and when i entered activation code which i entered before when installing the game first time It is showing "ROCKSTAR ACTIVATION CODE ALREADY IN USE".Please help someone as I am not able to play the game at least .Please help gta forums members . Some may say that they already understand everything. The test is whether or not they can apply it. Do they produce beautifully architected systems that are a joy to maintain? Do they plow through programming problems at a rate almost unimaginable to the average programmer? Do they explain everything clearly and in simple concepts when they are asked for help? Then they are an excellent programmer, and they understand things well.
It seems almost too simple to be true, but it is in fact the case. The path to becoming an excellent programmer is simply full and complete understanding, starting with a profound grasp of the basics and working up to a solid control of the most advanced data available.
More advanced users should be introduced to different types of registers. My favorite is the circular register. It fascinates me how it is efficient because of the way it maintains space due to the consideration of the common locality of functions and arguments.
Max, What are the basics? Now, you would say: shame on you, Alessandro! I agree. Which concepts or books could rebirth a programmer? How a rockstar coder is forged? Thanks, Max! I am waiting for your book!
While there is an advantage in learning how the computer executes your instructions at a low-level, particularly for systems and microcontroller programming, a skill which the best programmers possess more consistently is the ability to abstract the complexities of a problem away and solve the problem at a higher level. Good programmers make things easy for themselves, because when you have to hold a lot of state in your head at once, you make mistakes which lead to bugs. Providing good abstractions also makes your code easier to maintain and expand by others.
That may or may not include being loud. Just because someone has written a blog, or a book, or speaks well doesn't mean they are a good developer. You certainly don't want a diva. Diva Developers do more harm than good.
In fact, it's diversity of thought and experience in a team that makes a Rockstar Team - that's what you really want. Put thoughtful and experience architects with enthusiastic and positive engineers who are learning and you'll get something. If you insist on calling someone a rockstar, they are likely the team's teacher and mentor.

I do interesting things with computers, code, comedy, music and video, then I travel all over theworld and tell people about it. I provide software training and consultancy through my company Ursatile. I'm a keynote speaker, I'm a Microsoft MVP,I created Rockstar, an esoteric programming language thatstarted as a joke and ended up in Classic Rock magazine, and Iown the best web address in thehistory of the internet.

There are a lot of reasons to write code. You can write functions that do things like calculating taxes and push them to a production environment. You can write code just to see what it does and throw it away as soon as it answered a question.
Reading this, you might be wondering if the Rockstar programming language does anything particularly interesting with Git. It is a quirky, esoteric language where all of your programs are also heavy metal songs, letting you write code that is also 80s, heavy-metal, power ballad, song lyrics.
While the Rockstar programming language itself is kind of weird, the codebase is just a JavaScript project, complete with documentation in markdown. However, there is something that Rockstar does which is a little bit unusual. Rockstar is actually two repositories; both are hosted on GitHub and open source. One of these repos is the core Rockstar programming language repository that includes the language spec, the interpreter, and the test suite.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is easily one of the most popular games of all time -- it nearly won the much-coveted Game of The Year award at The Game Awards in 2018, and there's a good reason for that. RDR2 has been touted as one of the most detailed games of the modern era; both in terms of gameplay realism and visual fidelity.
With all of that in mind, it's really no surprise that PC gamers have been desperately hoping for a full port of the game since launch. Unfortunately, as was the case with Grand Theft Auto V, developer Rockstar has been completely silent regarding their PC plans. We've mostly had to rely on rumors and speculation to keep hope alive.
