Hello,

The Surrey and Victoria Seed Libraries want to reach out to seed libraries across BC in the hopes of pulling together a loose knit network of support and encouragement. We've been fortunate at LifeCycles to get some capacity to support this networking and are excited to be reaching out.

One way we could stay in touch is through a quarterly BC seed sharing newsletter. Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in either receiving and/or contributing to.

We've also just launched a seed sharing website - www.borrowsaveshare.com - to support seed libraries in BC in getting started and staying up and running. Please have a look at the Directory and let us know if your seed library is not listed. If you have other resources or links that you think would be useful to share through this website, please let us know. Also, please help us spread the word and get this website out there for people to use and update.

As seed libraries grow and expand, it would be interesting to see if we can start gathering together once in a blue moon, either in person or via the internet. Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in.

Looking forward to hearing from you, and working together to support seed sharing in BC.

Hello Matthew,
Yes you have listed the Sunshine Coast Seed Collective on your site which is great.  Can you note that it is the Public library in Sechelt and Roberts Creek also distributes seeds thanks to Mariko.
Sechelt Public Library

And we also have

Roberts Creek Public Library

We have been using seeds that are leftover from Seedy Saturday to stock the libraries.  It felt like a good use of leftover seeds so that the distribution could continue.  I liked how you pointed out on your website that it takes about 5 years to establish and that lots of times people are just borrowing seeds and experimenting.  It also provides access to seeds for low income people.  I definitely experienced that at the library, low income families happy to have access to seeds.  One thing we also have been doing is connecting the community gardens on Ocean Street with the library.  We planted seeds from the library there and are hoping to harvest some of the seeds back into the library as well.

Sure you can send us a newsletter and there is always a possibility in the future of meeting.  Winter is best.  The other times of the year are too busy with the hands on growing for me.

As for contributing to a newsletter, maybe if we post something on our local site of interest , you could reuse it in your newsletter with permission.

Green blessings

Hi Denise,

Great to hear from you. It sounds like you guys have quite a vibrant seed sharing community up there. I'm so pleased to hear a bit about it! I will look forward to staying connected. I'm hoping to distribute a newsletter later in the fall. I will try to update the info on borrowsaveshare.com as you suggest.

Warm wishes
matthew
