Hello everyone,

I am Sakshi Uttam Patil, a budding programmer with a passion for learning and exploring the world of coding. I'm in first year of bachelors, pursuing a degree in an EXTC department. I have recently completed a Python course from YouTube and have a solid foundation in Python, C++, and C languages. Currently, I am enhancing my skills by studying Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) in C++.

I am very excited to contribute to the OpenAstronomy project and to participate in Google Summer of Code 2025 through the OpenAstronomy Organization. I believe this project will be a fantastic opportunity for me to improve my skills, gain valuable experience, and make meaningful contributions. I am committed to working hard with enthusiasm, dedication, and consistency.

I look forward to your feedback and any guidance on how I can start contributing effectively.

Thank you and best regards, Sakshi Uttam Patil

Welcome and glad to hear you are interested in contributing.

OpenAstronomy is an umbrella organization consisting of many libraries (https://openastronomy.org/members/).  So depending on what you are after, you will need to reach out to individual libraries.

This is the sunpy emailing list, so if you are interested in that library, they recommend that everyone starts with reading https://docs.sunpy.org/en/latest/dev_guide/contents/newcomers.html to get started.
This will walk you through getting a development environment setup. When that is complete, the next step is to start tackling some good first issues which are linked in that guide.

Their GSoC advice is on our Wiki: https://github.com/sunpy/sunpy/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code

If you have any questions or problems do please let them know but they encourage all communications to occur on their public chat room; https://matrix.to/#/#sunpy:openastronomy.org

Kind regards
Nabil
