Sunpy folks!

ndcube 2.0, a major API-breaking rewrite, is nearing completion!  One major motivation is to enable SunPy Map to inherit from NDCube in the future.  So ndcube may find its way into your workflows even if you don't use it directly.  Therefore we would like to get some feedback from you, the SunPy community, on ndcube's new API.

An SEP describing the API is in progress and can be found at:

beta-release is available now:
pip install --pre ndcube

Please read the SEP and/or try the beta version and let us know what you think.  This is a great chance to alert us to issues in the 2.0 API before we are committed to it by the 2.0 release.  We would like to use a SunPy weekly meeting as a forum to discuss this in the coming weeks.

While formulating your feedback, note that the point of ndcube is to link data and coordinates to make universally useful tasks such as slicing, coordinate transformations, and visualization, much easier.  Its API therefore aims to be powerful, but minimal.  It should not include everything Map needs, but only the fundamental functionalities that are independent of the data type and universally useful.

Many thanks,
The ndcube team!
