Attached is the pdf file of the bulletin.  Thanks Ed for helping me overcome my lack of tech skills.

Looks great. I like how it is geared towards visitors AND regular attendees alike.

One thing -- is it just me, or is it a little weird to have photos of random people (the ones holding up the signs)? Unless they're actually regulars at our church, and I'm just really that bad at meeting new people..

No you are right.  I am not fond of these particular pictures.

What do you guys suggest for bringing in more than just text to help make the bulletin easier on the eyes?

I agree...what about some candid shots of groups of people that "say" something about the topic?  More like candid photos of people laughing together, photos of Sunnyside, children playing, etc...

One idea, if you still want to use photos, would be to have QPC-Sunnyside (yes!) members re-create the current poses, holding up blank posterboard.

Also, I would suggest that the sermon notes section would be much smaller and we could use the bottom of that page to include a blurb each week about a different element of worship for those who are new to church.  For example, "Preparation and Reflection:  What do I do during this time?"  or "Confession of Faith:  What is the purpose of confessing what we believe together as a church?"

Finally, I am thinking the part about worship in the back is too wordy and lengthy.  So that part will either be cut down drastically or taken out all together.

Will the bulletins be printed out or photocopied? It will make a difference in how good any photos would look.

Generally I think that less would be more when it comes to graphics. The welcome packet seems to me to be to be a better place to have candid shots of some of the members.

I think that you're right about the Worship section. The welcome packet might be a good place to put it.

I didn't get a chance to read all the comments yet, but here's my two cents:
~The "Circle One" section for the attendance seems to be off-set... unless one of the options is "time"
~There are a lot of words... everywhere. It would probably take me the entire sermon just to read the whole thing
~I like the idea of having pictures, but maybe have actual people from GFC/QPC? (and will the print be detailed enough, or would people not actually be able to recognize faces/people?
~Will we be given time each week to fill out the cards? Sometimes I have to fill out church's info cards during the sermon so i can put it in the offering bin, OR i don't get to give it to them at all because they 'pass the plate' early in the service and then i have no idea who to give my card to at the end of service. We can encourage members to come early, but we should be spending our time before the service fellowshipping and meeting newcomers, not filling out a response card.
~In the example, it says that the current sermon is studying the life of Jesus through Mark, but the passage is from Matthew. Hmmm...
~I love the emerald city-type logo for Sunnyside :)
~I heart QPC Sunnyside

Joanna

I agree it's pretty wordy.  Need to condense alot.

Hey guys!

Sorry, I've been on an email sabbatical for the past 2 days. I needed it but I see that this thread needed more of an urgent feedback.

Here are my thoughts:
- It is way too text heavy. If I entered a church, I would never read all of this and would have a hard time finding what I needed to find.
- I agree that the photos should have QPC-ers.
- I agree with Tiffany that there should be less graphics unless we shrink the sizes. My eyes are automatically drawn to the images and none of the text.
- I really like that we're consistent with the font.
- I forget if we ever discussed this but with the feedback sections, I say we have it there but if its not being used, we should get rid of it.

wow. I love that we're really keeping these threads moving!

I agree with Gina - but would add that the front page could be one font as well and that the contact info could be included there. Also, I think you could get away without pictures - or at least, it'd be nice to see in a mock-up.

Overall, it's busy with probably more sections than needed.

Perhaps, if there were pictures, it could be of members that new folks could approach - being that people aren't using feedback pages? So, if we had some point people that were both on the lookout for new folks, and we had a picture or two of members in the bulletin that were at reception to be approached? That would kill two birds with one stone.

Just from a practical point of view, if the two-page fold in the middle had the opening thoughts and schedule on the first page, sermon and text on second page, and space for notes on third page and community groups on last page - that would make the middle the only part you would keep for that week (as a member or regular)

Then outer two-page section could be the 'bulletin' for members and new visitors alike - with Cover - with some contact info; followed then by mission statement  -- ((then the inner two-page section would follow)) - and then the last two pages would be welcoming pages - with feedback on the final back page.

I'm sure I've only managed to confuse things. Just thoughts.

Enjoy your Saturday.

I agree with Carrie about not needing the Service Chart section...all that is on the website anyway and it would be a good segway into encouraging people to utilize the website more by having to check it if they need or want to know who is serving each month.

Here are my thoughts...

- I dont really like the idea of images of people. I think it is kind of cheesy and weird. I love the background image of the sunnyside sign on the sermon notes section, and if we want to add more images, we should go in that direction.
- I think overall we could say what we want to say with less words. Maybe summarize more and lead people to the welcome packet or website to get more detailed explanations of everything (like the corporate worship section for example).
- Since community groups are an announcement and in the announcement it kind of explains why we think they are important, maybe we can eliminate the 'what is the purpose of community groups' section and put that on the website and in the welcome packet.
- Sunday Morning Service List: do we really need that? I dont really think it is necessary in the bulletin, if we want to have names for intercessory prayer, we could put the names in the order of worship section, or if we want to have the names of the childrens/toddlers ministry leaders for that day, we could probably put it somewhere else. I just dont think it is necessary for everyone to know who is supposed to be setting up or ushering, children with special needs (it is always Richard and Nicole) etc.
- I also think we need to put information about translation on the front cover. I dont think that someone who does not speak english would look through the order of worship section to the bottom of the page to see that there is translation available. It should be on the front cover.

Let me know what you think.
Carrie.

good stuff.  i am already reducing everything.  the corporate worship section will go.  maybe it can come up (in a MUCH shorter mode) in the section on the various elements of worship.

i don't mind getting rid of service either.  that should be handled by individual ministry team leaders anyway.  we need to empower them and give them the responsibility to take care of that.

your idea on c.g. is good too as well as translation.

So.  Overall here is the sum consensus on the new bulletin (as far as I can tell from all of your input--Gina let me know if these are your conclusions as well) - (also I included Richard and Kyu on here to get them up to speed).

1.  Too much text.  (Already working on that).
2.  Pictures of people are unnecessary.  Perhaps, if any graphics are needed, more pix of Sunnyside would be the way to go?
3.  I will remove the announcement going forward for Community Groups and will just keep the blurb on the Community Group section (and I will edit and shorten the text there as well).
4.  No more service table, "who is serving?" and we will make sure each Team handles that internally.
5.  Translation note moved to the front.
6.  The feedback tear out will be experimental.  I will push it each week and see how response goes.  If it doesn't produce anything helpful, we will remove.
7.  We will go exclusively to "QPC-Sunnyside".

Also, is there a time-line yet for next steps?  Both for projects and for moving to exclusive use of "QPC-Sunnyside" over GFC?

Am I missing anything?
