Hey guys!
This past sunday Ed, Joanna, Pastor Storck and I got together and had
our first Media Team meeting.
These are the things we discussed:
INTRODUCTION: WHO WE ARE
We are a group of people that will serve both the GFC community (In
Reach) and the Sunnyside community (Out reach) through Media arts.
I am here to delegate the many operations that will be going on. I
will try my best to give equal opportunities and use my best judgment
to assign sufficient amount of tasks to everyone. It is important that
we don't burn ourselves out. Be honest. The need is not the call :)
Our team will communicate with each other throughout the week via our
googlegroup:
gfcm...@googlegroup.com. If you haven't join yet, please
do. If you haven't gotten an invite yet, please email me.
WORKING WITH THE CONGREGATION
There will be people who want to request certain things. i.e an image
for the follow week's bulletin.
People can either come up to us in person or email us at
gfcm...@googlegroup.com
They should give us a week in advance. Unless it's an emergency for a
community event ex. Movie night, Sunnyside City Camp, we may make
exceptions. As a group, we should not hesitate to say no to our
congregation.
UPCOMING PROJECTS
1. Website
a) Public Website. We are going to make a new website from scratch,
probably through Wordpress.
http://wordpress.org/ Wordpress is content management based which will
help us a lot. It'll spread out the responsibilities to update to the
congregation members so that the burden won't fall on 1 or 2 people.
Wordpress is simple enough that people who aren't tech savvy could
easily update content on the web. The public website will be designed
for people who are searching for a church. Pastor Storck suggested
that our website becomes more community based. The site will mostly
consist of sermons, community group info, ministry cell descriptions,
and some photos from our different ministries. Very limited but
explicative enough that people will understand what our church is all
about. Before we make a layout for the website, Ed is going to make a
survey for this sunday for limited amount of people of different
demographics of our church asking which part of the current website is
most useful. This will be a good guideline for designing the layout.
b) Internal Website. One of the things that we discussed is the need
of a database where the church members can communicate. Currently we
have a software called Basecamp, where ministry/cell leaders can
communicate with each other by ending messages, uploading files, and
basically collaborating ideas. It has a directory of all the church
members, infos. etc. There is another software by Zondervan called The
City that we are interested in.
http://www.onthecity.org/ This is like
Basecamp but it is aesthetically appealing and user friendly. There
are sections where individual members can congregate and discuss.
Nothing is official yet but I encourage you to go through sites. John
Frisbie mentioned having updated events/calendars. Our public website
will have updates, announcements and church events. An internal
database will be good for updates/events on people's birthdays or
other specific and confidential information.
Our situation right now is getting everyone to communicate ...cyberly
(and that is not a word).
We want to try out best to get rid of the middle man. Sorry Ed. It's
time you stop doing everything by yourself. We may not be ready for a
"church" community website. It is really difficult to get people to
use an internal website regularly. Before we make big decisions, I
think we should focus on encouraging our congregation members to use
our everyday cyber venues- FACEBOOK & Twitter. People are on facebook
all the time.
2. Welcoming Packet
This is for the newcomers. It will be a packet with thorough
information about our church. We will have sections for ministries,
what our church is about, and have community coupons so that they
could get more engaged with local stores and people. Our job is to
DESIGN these packets. All the ministry cell leaders are responsible
for giving us their content. This is a good opportunity for all the
artists, designers and photographers to jump in. Sang, here is your
opportunity to do the layout design. John and Joanna with the photos.
Rob with his.... art (you have too many genres). This is a project
that everybody can get involved in. Also, we may give out USB in each
packet with other goods like photos files.
Logo
We will be working on some logos & icons. This will be a long term
project. Currently we have the globe logo which is located in our
weekly bulletins. We are not sure if this logo will be for the PCA or
just GFC. If we need a new logo, we will need a logo in different
sizes for everything- website, bulletin, fliers, postcards, business
cards, you name it. We will also be needing some icons for the web.
Ex. a person reading a bible can be an icon for everytime a bible
verse is mentioned on the web.
That is all (at least I that i remember).
Let's chat this baby up.
