Attempted child abduction reported

Posted: January 16, 2013 10:56:04 AM PST
Bellingham Police Detectives are investigating a report of a possible attempted abduction of a 10 year old girl as she was walking home from school. The child told officers that she was walking home from Parkview Elementary School at about 3:50 P.M on Tuesday afternoon. The girl said that as she was walking in the 700 block of West Indiana Street, she noticed a man standing outside of a parked van. The man said  “get into the van”. The girl yelled “no” then ran off. The suspect reportedly ran after the child for a short distance then she believes he got into the van and drove off. The girl was not harmed.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s with short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a beanie hat, gray T-shirt, gray shoes and tan shorts. The suspect vehicle is described as a full sized black van with a single window in the rear and tinted windows on the side.
Anyone with information concerning this is asked to please call Bellingham Police Detective Jana Bouzek at 360-778-8826.
