Nowavailable with a hollow shaft option, the Bodine type HG and HG/H gearmotors are shorter in length but taller than comparable parallel shaft gearmotors. The offset design allows the gearmotors to deliver high torque for their size, and the large center distance between the gearbox and the motor enables these units to be fitted with dual drive shafts. Bodine type HG/H hollow shaft gearmotors can be connected directly to the driven load, eliminating the need for expensive shaft couplings and mounting hardware.

Our variable speed type CG gearmotors are available from stock with either AC inverter-duty or permanent magnet DC windings. The CG gearmotors are designed for applications such as heavy-duty conveyor systems, medical equipment, food processing and factory automation, where long life and high load capacity are critical. The integral motor-gearhead design allows the CG gearmotors to deliver up to 1,000 lb-in. (113 Nm) of torque in a competitively priced and high-performance package.

The LRPX series carefully integrates the unique RPX series brushless motor with a custom planetary gearbox. The result is a small form factor brushless DC gearmotor that can produce incredibly high torque at low speeds, providing powerful, efficient and smooth operation with low noise!

Typical small-frame BLDC motors have peak performance at very high RPMs. These speeds are simply too high to make efficient use of a gearbox, and even when a typical BLDC motor is paired with a custom high-rpm gearbox, usually there are noise and heat issues that make it prohibitive for a variety of applications. The LRPX design is optimized to perform with peak efficiency at more traditional motor speeds, offering significant advantages to customers, not only in torque output, but also in reliability and overall cost.

Dozens of gear ratios are available ranging from 1.3:1 up to 720:1 with a maximum torque rating on most gearheads of 30 oz-in. For overload torque protection the gearheads may be selected with two-way slip clutches. The highly efficient DC motor has permanently lubricated sintered bearings and long life brushes.

For OEM Customers who are unsatisfied with having to design around inflexible off-the-shelf products, our technical knowledge and customizable product families provide for a design experience which results in motor and motion systems that deliver superior reliability and performance at the lowest possible cost.

The output shaft of right-angle gear motors is at a 90 angle from the motor shaft. Bodine DC right-angle gearmotors feature either worm gearing or hypoid gearing. Worm gearing is a proven and economical solution for applications that require high-speed reductions in limited space, and with very smooth and quiet operation. Worm gears have inherent self-locking ability depending on design and ratio. All Bodine worm-gear gearboxes are permanently lubricated with high- performance lubricant, and feature bronze gears for high shock load capability. The worm gear is hardened and ground for high strength and long life.

Right angle gearmotors with hypoid gear sets have several advantages when compared with standard worm-and-pinion right-angle gearmotors. While slightly more expensive, hypoid gearmotors are more efficient, produce less heat, provide higher torque, and are usually smaller than equivalent gearmotors with worm-and-pinion reducers.

Bodine offers seven right-angle gearboxes: type 3F, 3RD, 5F, 5L, 5N, GB and 5H. Most of these gearheads are also available in hollow shaft configuration. All Bodine gearhead-motor combinations are designed to work together as one integral unit, eliminating the chance of leakage or misalignment. These geared motors step down the motor speed (typically 1750 or 2500 rpm) to as low as 0.7 rpm, and as high as 500 rpm. While the amount of output torque they provide is dependent on the gear ratio, the Bodine family of DC right-angle gearmotors deliver torque from 5.2 to 380 lb-in.

Typical applications include medical and laboratory equipment, labeling and packaging machines, conveyors, and a wide range of factory automation solutions. Low voltage models ideal for battery, solar, and off-grid remote applications.

If you look up NEMA 17 motor on EBAY there is a good selection for less than $25 - then the easydriver from either ebay or sparkfun for around $15 and you are good to go - you will need to work out a coupling mechanism to attach it to the rod that turns the winder

But first you need to put a figure to that "high torque" requirement - some sort of measurement or

calculation and then add a healthy margin for error. You might want to consider limit switches - too

high a torque might damage the mechanism if it tries to force past the end-of-travel.

There are tons more out there where those came from; they would likely have all the torque you would need for your application and then some (let that be a warning to make sure you set up some kind of limit-switch mechanism).

With a stepper motor you can tell it to do an exact number of turn (in fact depending on the stepper you can break an individual turn into many many many steps.) This gives you much more control and enables you to deliver a lot of torque also.

Well you can invest $30 in the solution i proposed and see how it goes - if no good then you will need to step it up to the next level - before you go much further i am wondering if you have thought about how you are going to mount all of this so it looks OK ? Obviously adding additional gearing steps will let you get as much leverage/torque as you need -- but things will become less and less sightly as you go

Like our 5202 Series Yellow Jackets (which have a 6mm D-Shaft), these 5203 Series Yellow Jackets feature an FTC legal motor with the goBILDA Pattern on the face, a high-quality encoder, and convenient bullet connectors.

The 5204 Series Yellow Jackets have all the benefits of the 5203s with one obvious difference: an 80mm long output shaft. The longer shaft is able to reach through the channel and enough past the far side to fasten a hub and a wheel to, negating the need for a coupler and an additional shaft.

The 5202 Series Yellow Jacket Planetary Gear Motors are the solution for smooth, efficient and robust power for your project. M4 mounting holes on the goBILDA pattern offer a quick and convenient way to integrate with other goBILDA components. The 6mm D-shaft is supported by dual ball bearings to handle immense torque loads and increase efficiency. The relative quadrature encoder is able to run on both 3.3V and 5V. 470mm long power wires combined with the 3.5mm bullet connectors offer a high quality, high current connection in a compact, reversible form factor. Competing in FTC? These planetary gear motors utilize the FTC legal Modern Robotics/MATRIX 12VDC Motors.
