The SUNDIALS team is requesting comments in regard to the following proposal. Specifically, we are interested in comments about negative impacts the proposal may have on our users (concrete or otherwise).

Proposal

We propose to require the subset of the C99 standard implemented by Visual Studio 2015 to compile (but not use) SUNDIALS.

Background

SUNDIALS has been ANSI-C compliant since its inception. Recently, there have been certain features of the C99 standard which the development team would like to use in order to write more concise code in some key new features (e.g., the SUNDIALS logger). A notable platform which we target that does not support C99 fully is the Microsoft C/C++ compiler. However, the features the development team would like to use are implemented in the Microsoft C/C++ compilers since Visual Studio 2015.

Deadline

Please provide comments by 11/18.
